I'm thinking about a private mod (quite JFB) that would entail having Japan get Soviet and some German hardware for free. I'm still at the experimental stage now, and using convoy units to deliver the stuff in limited quantities at defined dates sounds like what I'd need. Can convoy units be made to work for the Japanese side? If so, how would they need to be defined? What could they deliver?

If you need any Data i got a lot ready, quite happy to share

I dont think they work for Japan I certainly never specced them to be

So convoy units do not work for japan Andy ? Is it confirmed ?

I have never tested it all I can say it wasnt part of the spec (there was no need for it)

If it works its an accident it does

Andy

Thanks, Che. What I intend to do is copy some Soviet devices to the Japanese side, mainly field artillery, AA guns, and some tanks, all items that should be readily available in a collapsed Soviet Union. An influx of small arms could be simulated by revising the anti-armor and anti-soft values of Japanese combat squads upwards. The German hardware delivered to Japan are just some items to fill gaps. I thought of the 170 mm K18 gun, the 210 mm K38 gun (an excellent design of which at least 120 were planned; in the end, only about seven were built, one of which was reportedly sold to Japan. I think this gun was a victim of the Dora program), a dedicated CD version of this gun, the CD version of the 150 mm K39, maybe a few German radars. (As to the K38, the Japanese get a version using the barrel of the 203 mm C/36 Navy gun which should be good for 39-40 Kyards in a land mount. The German Army used eight of these heavy cruiser guns as railway guns; most of them were emplaced near Cherbourg on D-Day and subsequently proved a headache for Allied battleships). Now if only there were more free slots for LCUs!

mikemike i am using the same concept to supply the Axis forces in ultimate axis mod. Where can i send the data ? And which Data do you need ?

Regarding Convoys I am testing now will tell you the results

Regarding convoy units they work for japan but only with supplies and fuel. Will test it a little bit more to see if other variables work

Thank you, Che. I have all the device stats I need (I put in only devices that either already exist in the game or for which I have all necessary data). Concerning convoy units, it's possible that they won't be needed. In the editor, when you look at the Locations page, there is a field named "Withdraw" followed by two radio buttons labeled "1" and "2", the "type of withdraw". According to the editor manual, you can enter there the year/month/day when the unit is auto-withdrawn from the game, and "1" means the devices of the unit returned to the pool while if "2" is selected, the devices are returned to the pool.

So it seems you may be able to define a unit with the devices you want to deliver to the pool and that is present at the beginning of the game, place it somewhere out of the way, put it under a permanently restricted command, and set it to auto-withdraw with type "2" on the day you want the devices delivered.

Somewhere out of the way would ideally be an off-map base. As all the units should do is auto-withdraw, this place wouldn't even need to be displayed on the map. Again, I don't know that it is possible to define additional off-map locations for the Japanese side.
