Well, what sort of games do you normally like playing? Help people narrow down the list to things you might enjoy. [:)]

I like all kinds of games. I really dont have a specific game type but if I had to pick I am on a space game kick atm.

If American Civil War is a possibility, I'd highly recommend Forge of Freedom.

For World War II: War in the Pacific or if you really wanna take the plunge up the learning cliff: WiTP Admiral's Edition.

For Napoleonic: Crown of Glory Emperor's Edition.

For general wargaming: The Operational Art of War (TOAW) III

If you like WiTP or WiTP:AE, there was also a very nice spinoof game for WiTP called War Plan Orange, that covered the 1920s Pacific naval arms race era, somewhat alternate history oriented.

Battle Of Britain II Wings of Victory is excellent for combined strategic bombing warfare and flight simulator.

I enjoyed Hired Guns a lot myself: turn-based tactical modern commando with a strategic level map. Sadly not very moddable, but fantastic tactical dynamics.

I own three or four other ones that I'd not necessarily "recommend" but they were satisfying.

As far AS SciFi and Matrix Games go,

Armada 2526 would be next in line once you already have DW. If you have never played Master of Orion 2, or Galactic Civilizations 2, then you will really enjoy Armada 2526.

Anthropoid mentioned some good games there. One of the very best is Panther Games Conquest of the Aegean (CotA) - battles through the Aegean in WWII. If you prefer a more familiar setting, they've also done HTTR (Highway to the Reich). It's an older engine to CotA, but still massively playable apparently. Or if you'd rather wait, Battles from the Bulge is due it's imminent release from the same company.

I also like Gary Grigsby War Between The States. A great game...shallower than Forge of Freedom, but very, very playable and deceptively detailed.

Does anyone have experience with Gary Grigsby's World at War? I've tried the demo of the first game and it does seem "deceptively simple" and fun from what I've been able to play. But I do have Making History already.

Gary Grigsby's "A World Divided" is a great WWII Grand Strategy game. While it is deceptively simple, it is IMHO one of the most realistic and does cover the entire globe with all the combatants.

This was the feedback I was asking for thanks for your time. Now I have to decide how to spend the 3% of my pay check the wife allows me to :P

Okay, Erik, now that I helped your business yet again, when are you guys going to build a Vietnam era master strategy + tactical battles game for me!? I want politics, mass media, the hippy movement, military policy (i.e., the draft, free-fire zones or not, strategic bombing or not, etc.), wiretapping, technological development (i.e., contract with Boeing or Volkswagen?) to all be major factors in win-lose or draw. Victory conditions should NEVER be apparent until the end, and should vary between about 30 or 40 alternatives.

I want China, North Vietnam, USA, Thailand and Cambodia to be playable. In fact, actually, why don't you just go ahead and make it so the game can be played from 1946 until 1980? That way we could play the French too [:D] Please include all important statesmen/women, scripted semi-random historical events, as well as potentially some non-historical events that COULD have happened, and significant political social figures of the era. Assassinations, coups and sexy Playboy bunny girls should all play an important part in the strategy.

Just think of the possibilities in terms of the soundtrack!?!

Thanks!

I like how production is laid out in WaW. Very visual and easy to see what units will be finished when. I also like how supply for units is modeled. It limits where you can move units. In MH you can move any unit anywhere and it somehow has unlimited fuel and supply to go where ever it wants around the globe.
