lostsm -> human race start but zenox majority (4/22/2010 8:58:32 PM)

my last game (really fun!) was a real oddball start.

my home system is zenox, and my home planet had some 5000M zenox vs my 3000M humans. two nearby systems: one has a indy planet with 500M zenox, the other system is home world to a zenox AI.

any colony ship I built from my homeworld was zenox race. humans did not spread at all for the better part of the game. by the time I stopped there was some humans here and there, but always at the low end of the list of the population.

it kind of gave some backdrop though. I started as military dictatorship, so some sort of human junta took control over the zenox and steam rolled over them. despite zenox ending up overpopulating the galaxy, the few human elites remained in charge ;)

i never lost my human bonuses as far as I could tell, or see them diminish, or see the main race picture change, which is a good thing. if it had changed it would of ruined my entire imaginary story I came up with justifying my game

this was with teeming alien life, and expansion set to 'old'. AIs expansion we're all custom set

This is basically inevitable as the Dhayut, who have basically crap racial bonuses, their only real selling point being that they have the best engine in the game to start with.

ooh, that explains it...

I did notice that species with capability of colonizing unusual planets flourish... if you only have one species that can colonize volcanic planets or ice planets... well who do you think is going to colonize all those?

there isn't any tech for ice/volcanic/ocean colonization is there?

nope... continental everyone can colonize.
swamp, and desert are tech based (although some races can colonize them without the tech I think)
oceans, volcano, and ice are race specific.

I consider it a HIGH priority to acquire a planet of a race that can colonize one of each of those ASAP...
It is much easier than researching the tech, and gives you 3 new planet types vs just 2 new... (which you would get eventually).
you can snag all those systems and planets without any opposition, its awesome.
