John 3rd -> RE: Reluctant Admiral Feedback (6/27/2010 2:55:00 PM)

That sounds easy enough to do. Will take care of it.

Think that I am not awake in that I don't completely understand what Michael said and you worked to clarify. There are units that can ONLY serve one or the other? Is that the issue?

ny59giants -> RE: Reluctant Admiral Feedback (6/27/2010 3:13:35 PM)

Here is one of three potential Special BF that now requires both LCUs be changed to another command as their current commands are not available when you try change commands.

PaxMondo -> RE: Reluctant Admiral Feedback (6/27/2010 4:02:00 PM)

when will the next update be ready?  Is there a link (other than to v1) available yet?

John 3rd -> RE: Reluctant Admiral Feedback (6/27/2010 7:07:22 PM)

Michael--If you can track down the exact units and post them here, I will get that changed for the new release.

Pax--Juan has been incredibly busy and I am waiting on him finishing the American and Chinese OOB/upgrade changes before I can do my work. It shouldn't--hopefully--be too long.

Just in case of further misunderstanding, the issue, as I understand it, is, for some reason players cannot change command of the units to Combined Fleet or Southwestern Area Fleet in AE at all, but component pieces of some units might belong to both of them. So both components must be changed to some third command to recombine them. The simplest fix probably to ensure that component units are assigned to the same command.

Cool, just wanted to be sure I hadn't missed a link somewhere above.... I can be patient. sortta ... [:D]

John 3rd -> Mark Two HOMESTRETCH! (6/29/2010 12:01:06 AM)

Got the files from Juan today! THANK YOU JUAN! [&o][&o]

Now I shall get moving on the 'to do' list I have. Topics:

1. Michael--Can you get me the exact units that have the command problem? I will follow the above advice and place them under 4th Fleet control.

2. FatR--What will solve the 9th Air Fleet assigned issue. Could you tackle that again just so I have it and fully understand?

If ANYONE playing the RA, Mark One has issues, questions, or requests for changes NOW is the time to say something!!!

John 3rd -> RE: Mark Two HOMESTRETCH! (6/29/2010 5:33:35 AM)

Michael got the info to me and posed an interesting question that I don't have the answer for. This is what he wrote:

Here are the IDs for the 8 LCUs (4415 thru 4422) that need at least one of the two commands changed. The 4 Port Units should be changed over to Combined Fleet from SW Area Fleet, IMO.

This is going to hurt, but you know the Editor better than I do. Can Combined Fleet be added to the list of pull downs that you can change commands to?? I've looked under the "Location" tab, but did not see how it could be do
ne.

Does anyone have an answer for this?

Deselect "Static Attached" checkboxes for the ground echelon and "Restricted Temporary" for the air units. Then check if everything can now be moved normally.

I don't know how Combined Fleet can be added to the list of commands to which you can change units. I suggest asking in the tech support thread.

John 3rd -> RE: Mark Two HOMESTRETCH! (6/30/2010 3:49:30 AM)

Thanks Stanislav. Easy to fix.

Michael saw the files today and was salivating over the Americans getting new toys! Thanks Juan for that work.

I have family in this week so getting things finished will be dicey. Will Post progress as I make it.

John 3rd -> RE: Mark Two HOMESTRETCH! (6/30/2010 4:04:33 AM)

My Revised 'To Do' list since Juan sent me the files:

1. Nisshin Air Group (my game STILL does not show it arriving with the aircraft).

2. Fix the lack of fuel on the DDs at Etorofu and Babeldoap.

3. Fix LCU prep targets for units moved to Ominato, Truk, and the Marshalls.

4. Move 41st AA Regiment from Chungking (Strange!) to Shanghai.

5. Fix IJN SS TF Move Bonus to allow about 40% of IJN subs to be able to be deployed as the Japanese player sees fit.

6. Replace Admiral Yamamoto with Ugaki to reflect him being Navy Minister.

7. CL Tenryu 7-44 Upgrade to leave 10/65 AA Guns instead of switching back to 12.7.

8. Create a TF carrying an Aussie Brigade and support units somewhere between Noumea and PM. Consolidate the ANZAC Cruiser Force to be escorting this Transport group.

9. Create a Fighter, Dive Bomber, and Torpedo Bomber set of Training Squadrons on the West Coast that start with just a few planes, can expand, and are perminently restricted.

10. Correct engine balance for the beginning of the war to reflect the increased aircraft production of the Mod.

11. Raise Chinese experience for units around Changsha. Raise by d10%.

12. Raise Japanese experience for units around Ichang. Raise by d10% there as well.

13. Fix LCU HQ compatibility for 4415-4122,

14. Fix 9th Air Fleet units so they can move immediately.

15. Find out if Combined Fleet can be added to pull downs for unit assignment.

16. Add Chutai to Japanese CVE.

Have I missed anything?

Question posted now in Tech Support.

FatR -> RE: Mark Two HOMESTRETCH! (6/30/2010 11:42:35 AM)

I assume Chinese OOB is reduced back now?

John 3rd -> RE: Mark Two HOMESTRETCH! (6/30/2010 1:49:34 PM)

Haven't looked at it but it was one of Juan's major projects. Should be back to normal (thank goodness).

John 3rd -> RE: Mark Two HOMESTRETCH! (6/30/2010 2:52:47 PM)

I want to move Ugaki to lead Combined Fleet but his name doesn't come up for the slot. How do I fix that?

EDIT: Nevermind--Got it.

John 3rd -> Mark Two Questions (6/30/2010 3:12:46 PM)

How does one allow an air group to re-size? The drop-down box has month-year and number of planes to re-size to. If I want to allow a unit to go from 9 up to 27 planes do I just type in the max number? That doesn't sound right so I wanted to ask.

JUAN: Thanks for adding the Chutai of Kates for the Japanese CVEs. It was on my 'to do' list and was happy to see it already done.

Question posted now in Tech Support.

They don't normally answer "how do I do this" kinda questions over there. They try and keep it to bugs and things. So ...

Subordinate Naval HQs, any Naval HQ that is assigned to another HQ, will not show up in the reassign list. You can assign ships to them, but nothing else. In the stock game, Combined Fleet is assigned to Southern Army (HQ is 04). If you want to assign things (other HQs) to Combined Fleet, then make Combined Fleet a top level HQ, i.e., assign it to report to itself (change HQ from 04 to 16). Don't make it a Command HQ (a 109) but keep it a Naval HQ (29), because otherwise you won’t be able to assign ships to it.

John 3rd -> RE: Mark Two HOMESTRETCH! (6/30/2010 3:55:18 PM)

THANKS! I greatly appreciate the help.

John 3rd -> RE: Mark Two HOMESTRETCH! (6/30/2010 4:25:28 PM)

OK. Got Combined Fleet is now a top level HQ.

QUESTION: Should all the Fleets be assigned to it? By OOB Combined Fleet drew ships from the other Fleet and provided orders to the Fleets. If I assigned the Fleets to answer to Combined Fleet then this should reflect that. Thoughts?

ny59giants -> RE: Mark Two HOMESTRETCH! (6/30/2010 6:04:02 PM)

Maybe you should add both Southern Fleet and Southwest Are Fleet to the list.

I agree that ALL Fleet HQs should be under Combined Fleet.

Not the way the game works. Game does not look at hierarchy. You can set your OOB up that way if you want, but it will have no functional value, and may even be more limiting. If all the Fleets report to CF, and none are set up as independents, then nothing can ever be assigned to them except ships; i.e., no Air Groups, no BFs, no SNLF units. This is one of those things I have been harping about. Having an OOB that is “irl-pretty” is one thing: having it function within the game system is another; and the system is counter-intuitive.

The game doesn’t give a rat’s brookie if 1st Fleet is assigned to ComFlt or not. ComFlt provides no help - nothing, and in fact limits what can be done with 1st Flt to just having ships. Since it doesn’t matter, and has no effect, why not make all the Fleets top level HQs? That way they can get Air Flotillas, SNLF units, even IJA Divisions and Armys.

Just some thoughts. [;)]

I hate it when Mr. JWE makes total and COMPLETE sense! [sm=00000613.gif]

Ok. Won't touch the HQ with the exception of CF.

Speaking of the devil [sm=00000622.gif], old devil went out to Colorado (or was it Georgia?) to take a look around and found the following:

HQs (and all those Static and Restricted switches) are very, very tricky, and their functionality/limitations are not explained all that well. Indeed certain functionality is not quite as it was in the beginning (and described in the manuals). So here’s another quickie for you to consider.

Static Attached - units may not move by air or sea unless the HQ is changed. Even when HQ’s are
changed subordinate units need to be individually acquired via PP’s.
_ Any unit that is Static Attached (HQ or otherwise) MAY NOT change its HQ.
_ If the unit is assigned to an Unrestricted HQ, it may move normally.
_ If the unit is assigned to a Restricted HQ, one is SoL

Restricted Temp - units may not move by air or sea unless the HQ is changed. When the HQ’s are
changed subordinate units change to the classification of the parent.
_ Any unit that is Restricted Temp (HQ or otherwise) MAY change its HQ.
_ If the unit is assigned to an Unrestricted HQ, it may move normally.
_ If the unit is assigned to a Restricted, it may not move, but it can change HQ and do so.

Restricted Permanent – HQ’s (and on some occasions units) are restricted and may never have their
HQ changed – they remain and always shall be permanently restricted.
_ Any unit that is Restricted Perm (HQ or otherwise) MAY NOT change its HQ.
_ If the unit is assigned to an Unrestricted HQ, it may move normally.
_ If the unit is assigned to a Restricted HQ, one is SoL

btw - the first part of each paragraph is what's in the manual. The parts with underscore in front are what is. Ciao. [;)]

John 3rd -> RE: Mark Two HOMESTRETCH! (6/30/2010 6:56:55 PM)

That description of HQs is mighty helpful and I hope other Modders see it. Thats for the clarification to the Manual!

Everything done but 2, 3, 8 and 9. Not too bad for two hours of work. Should be able to finish this up in one more working session. Might be able to do that if I get a good nap from the boys this afternoon.

Who is waiting on the re-release? I KNOW Michael is probably excited...

John 3rd -> Loading Onto a New Turn One TF? (7/1/2010 12:39:13 AM)

I've got EVERYTHING done except one small problem.

I cannot figure out how to load troops, aircraft, and supply onto this new TF I've made that will head for wherever the Allied player wants. As you can see, I got the ships together (being escorted by Canberra, Perth, Achilles, and Leander) and placed them in a position that is only days away from a drop-off for unloading.

How do I place this stuff onto the new TF? Have tried it from the LCU page, TF page, Ship page. It is probably something really EASY but I cannot figure it out...

Here is the screenshot:

John 3rd -> American Naval Training Squadrons (7/1/2010 1:22:58 AM)

As per Michael's request there are now three training Squadrons based in San Diego. VF-, VB-, and VT-Training Squadron now sit so the Americans have the ability to train pilots for their CVs.

COOL!

ckammp -> RE: Loading Onto a New Turn One TF? (7/1/2010 1:25:48 AM)

To load LCUs on a TF:

1) From the Locations screen, select the desired LCU.
2) In the far-right column, there is a box tiitled "Unit to Load".
3) Type in the TF number.

Make sure you have enough ships in the TF to fully load the LCU(s).
Make sure the LCU(s) and the TF are at the same base.
Once you have selcted the LCU(s), the remaining available cargo space on the ships will automatically load supply; note however you might have to increase the amount of supply at the base to get your TF 100% loaded.

John 3rd -> Ready but for one thing... (7/1/2010 1:26:29 AM)

With the exception of getting troops, planes, and LCUs on that Transport TF we are set to GOOOOOOO.

I need an experienced Modder who can hold my hand on this topic!
