Neal_MLC -> Music for WitE (5/6/2010 5:07:02 PM)

Starting a new thread for music/sounds as requested by PyleDriver. I would like to hear Al Stewart's "Road to Berlin" as part of the opening sequence to THE GAME. But with copyright law and the mess called public domain I seriously doubt that this wish will materialize. Anyway after I watch the opening sequence the first time I turn off the all of the sounds anyway and turn on my own music. If it will speed up the release of of this gem I think that the sounds package could be offered as a downloadable mod pack with the first patch...

Hard Sarge -> RE: Music for WitE (5/6/2010 5:12:25 PM)

some Pink Floyd works good with the game (when the Tigers broke free is good mood setting)

Great_Ajax -> RE: Music for WitE (5/6/2010 5:26:04 PM)

  I like Mozart's "Introitus" as it just feels like a good fit.

Yeah, I agree with Pink Floyd. Dogs of War would do nicely as well

Lützow -> RE: Music for WitE (5/6/2010 5:36:56 PM)

I like the unobtrusive usage of civil war themes in WbtS music and would prefer something similiar discreet for WitE.

Northern Star -> RE: Music for WitE (5/6/2010 7:42:03 PM)

"Metal, metal, metal is all that I need!" (Sabaton - "Metalizer") [sm=Cool-049.gif]

I love heavy metal music and I love Sabaton, a Swedish metal band whose lyrics are mostly about war.

Hard Sarge -> RE: Music for WitE (5/6/2010 8:01:59 PM)

I will give it try Ester

LOL, like the names of the songs at least !!!!

Still think my Avatar would of been better, if Andy would of finished it off :)

Northern Star -> RE: Music for WitE (5/6/2010 8:12:15 PM)

In my opinion some songs suitable to play as Soviet are "Panzerkampf" and "40:1", and to play as German are "Ghost division" and "Talvisota".

My screensaver at my workplace is taken from the song "Talvisota": "Rise, nation's pride, hold what's yours, strike'em where it hurts! Fight, hold your ground, winter war, reinforce the line!"

Hard Sarge -> RE: Music for WitE (5/6/2010 8:29:39 PM)

interesting, think it will grow on me

think this will be good work music for me, when I am swinging my Sledge hammer and the part don't want to move !

(my first Hammer I made at work, I named Mjollnir, 16 pound sledge on a mallet shaft, the eng's seen it, they came over to tell me, it wouldn't be of any use, as I couldn't swing it, I showed them they were wrong (a very good friend of mine, his GF, was a blacksmith ( thinking spare time) and she used something like that too)

so far, like Art of War

(don't know though, feel like I should be swinging a sword then plotting to attack a river line :)

Another good song, to be played when forced to retreat or a big hole is blown in the line, is the Beatles helter skelter.

ComradeP -> RE: Music for WitE (5/7/2010 12:06:34 AM)

This is probably the last place on Earth where I expected someone mentioning Sabaton, not to mention having a positive feeling when it comes to Sabaton's music.

Although their stage presence/show gets old after you've seen it a few times, the music's nice.

jimh009 -> RE: Music for WitE (5/7/2010 12:29:19 AM)

Whatever music is ultimately put into the game, hopefully the developers will be nice and allow players to turn it off for good. For some people, silence can be golden. [:)]

Hard Sarge -> RE: Music for WitE (5/7/2010 2:26:15 AM)

I am liking it

thanks Ester

I agree, Floyd would go good.

I was almost going to suggest Gunner's Dream (one of the coolest tunes ever) but i guess that really is more of a western front song.

P.S. Agreed; When the Tigers broke free is also a killer tune.

MarcA -> RE: Music for WitE (5/7/2010 9:17:13 PM)

Philistines

You should be listening to Shostakovich's 7th, written inside Leningrad during the siege. That will help you capture the grim determination which was the Russian psyche during the war

Flaviusx -> RE: Music for WitE (5/8/2010 3:40:05 AM)

Heavy metal for wargaming? Blech.

I'm partial to classical for my ironmongering. Tchaikovsky gets me in the proper mood for some East Front gaming, nothing like the 1812 overture to get the blood flowing when I play the red hordes...

notenome -> RE: Music for WitE (5/8/2010 5:53:49 PM)

Actually the more that I think of it, WitE should have the entire 7th Symphony by Shostakovich. Its 70 minutes long, which is plenty of time for a game's musical score. Its public domain, its about world war II and it was written (partially) in Leningrad and played a major part in the Soviet's propaganda campaign. Its a perfect fit.

Pink Floyd et al for an Eastern front game set in the 1940s? [sm=fighting0056.gif]

"Pink Floyd et al for an Eastern front game set in the 1940s? "
it was a very surrealistic time[:D]

ool -> RE: Music for WitE (5/9/2010 3:01:44 AM)

As your tanks rush through a breach in the enemy lines, Dvorak's 9th New World Symphony. High energy music for that grease the treads blitz deep into the enemies rear area.

Alternatively for those brief moments with the Finns, Sibelius's Finlandia.

[&o]oops!

Captain B -> RE: Music for WitE (5/9/2010 8:39:29 PM)

I'm fond of Wagner's Ride of the Valkyries...besides being used by a Panzer Unit before an attack in WWII (well at least one author said he did) who could forget Col Kilgore's " put on a little psywar op...a little Romeo Foxtrot, shall we dance". The chaos of war, explosions, gunfire, incoming rounds, friendly fire (by the way, does WiTE account for friendly fire?) are set to that tune.

What would really be perfect if you could embed the CD with the scents of diesel, sweat, grime, grease, and "napalm...smells like victory" this would be the perfect wargame! LOL. [:D]

It already looks like a perfect game to me...ready to buy now! Or work on some what if scenarios!

wurger54 -> RE: Music for WitE (5/9/2010 9:38:37 PM)

Wagner might go well for the early war. After the Tigers show up I think anything by Ramstein would work.

I agree. As much as I like heavy metal, Pink Floyd or Rammstein, I think it doesn't go well with a game like WitE. I'd prefer music that isn't as intruisive as hard rock, so a good classical theme would be nice: Sjostakovitch or Dvorak's 9th New World Symphony.
Then again, it's always possible to have no ingame music, and have your own mediaplayer play the music you want.
