In addition, two small Dutch patrol squadrons have moved into NE Australia and are now flying naval search specifically over Lae base hex and immediate vicinity. Jap transports in Lae attacked by Avenger torpedo bombers from the CVE escort force along with Allied skip bombers from NE Australia. Interesting little detail… I had previously noted (in earlier game turns) several Sigint entries indicating elements of Jap 17th Infantry Division was enroute to Tarawa aboard various transport ships, including xAK Ohio Maru which is shown in the AAR below. Two possible conclusions can be reached from this observation – (1) 17th Division’s actual destination was Lae and LCU elements destroyed/disabled aboard Japanese ships below may be from 17 Division, (2) almost certain confirmation Pillager is likely using misleading destinations for Jap LCU’s from China being moved via sea transport to deceive Allied intel. 17 Division is yet another veteran unit of the Chungking battles. AAR’s of air actions over Lae follow. Two Japanese transport ships confirmed sunk in Lae plus 5 others reported with significant damage. Detected status of Lae shows 10 Japanese ships at Lae including 7 transports. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Morning Air attack on TF, near Lae at 99,126 Weather in hex: Moderate rain Raid spotted at 20 NM, estimated altitude 14,000 feet.
