HORNET LEADER
Hornet Leader is on the front burner now and is looking great!

We’ve posted a sample of the Iraq 1991 (Desert Storm) campaign sheet.

NAPOLEON
Wan is working on the map and counter artwork, so we’ll have samples of his work soon!

Dan Verssen -> RE: DVG NEWS! (6/1/2010 5:41:52 AM)

FIELD COMMANDER NAPOLEON
We’ve been receiving a ton of emails regarding the counter and map artwork previously posted in the Napoleon page. The emails have been very nicely written, but they all end up asking, “So is that the real artwork? Because if it is, it doesn’t look so good.”

Rest assured, the artwork up until now has been my playtest efforts. We have just updated the Napoleon page to include the REAL counter and map artwork by Wan, and it looks amazing!

We are still offering the Deluxe MOUNTED Battle Display for everyone who pre-orders. People who pre-order will receive the standard cardboard sheet, as well as the deluxe mounted display.

HORNET LEADER
The design is moving along very rapidly and we hope to send the game to the printer in July.

We’ve added a “What’s New” page to the Hornet section of the main site index on the left. We hope that you’ve liked the previous Air Leader games, and Hornet is looking to be the best yet!

The new Hornet started as a printed version of the Hornet Leader II Vassal/PDF games, but has since grown and taken on a greater depth of decision-making and game play variety.

GUNS BLAZING
All the printing details are getting resolved and we’ll be sending the files in a couple days. If you want to pre-order, this is your last chance to get the discount and the free promotional aircraft cards.

We’ll be charging credit cards in a few days. Please make sure your credit card information in your account is up to date. If you pre-ordered with paypal, you’re all set, and don’t need to do anything.

JudgeDredd -> RE: DVG NEWS! (6/9/2010 8:51:51 PM)

Dan (in case you pop back into this thread again)...I recently bought Phantom Leader and I have to congratulate you on a fantastic game. Well done.

MajFrankBurns -> RE: DVG NEWS! (6/9/2010 9:04:43 PM)

Dan when are you going to make a computer WWI air fight game?

Dan Verssen -> RE: DVG NEWS! (6/12/2010 6:05:12 AM)

JudgeDredd - Thank you very much! We are really happy with how it came out.

Dan Verssen -> RE: DVG NEWS! (6/12/2010 6:06:59 AM)

MajFrankBurns - It's possible. WWI isn't generally a very "commercial" era, but its dog fighting is the exception. I think a key aspect of the game would be the pilot personalties as much as the hardware.

Noypi53 -> RE: DVG NEWS! (6/12/2010 10:17:01 AM)

Dan -
What doing computer versions around the Field commander Series? I have Alexander & it would be great as a computer version.

Dan Verssen -> RE: DVG NEWS! (6/22/2010 7:14:39 AM)

Noypi53,

I have given it some thought, and I think they might do great, but I'm not sure they would have the depth needed for a computer game. Computer games tend to get played more often than the tabletop version, and they need more depth to hold a person's interest. Thoughts?

Dan Verssen -> RE: DVG NEWS! (6/22/2010 7:14:47 AM)

STALINGRAD
We’ve added a couple more cards to the slideshow!

HORNET LEADER
We’ve added an updated rulebook! A few graphics need to be replaced, but the text is looking good.

PunkReaper -> RE: DVG NEWS! (6/22/2010 12:14:42 PM)

I have noticed that Hornet Leader has 84 out of 250 preorders before it goes to print. Being in the UK I haven't preordered and will buy it locally when it is released. Are you waiting on the preorders before it can be released?

JudgeDredd -> RE: DVG NEWS! (6/22/2010 12:39:13 PM)

I noticed that and cannot pre-order for the same reason...I'll get hit with VAT and delivery, so I haven't pre-ordered either. I will be getting it when it's released though and if they had a UK system, then I would definitely pre-order

Yup that's how it has been working for the previous games.

Dan Verssen -> RE: DVG NEWS! (6/30/2010 3:47:34 AM)

Punk Reaper,

Yes, we need the pre-orders to pay the printer bill. The printer needs to be paid upfront. Once we have enough pre-orders to pay the bill, the game goes to the printer.

Dan Verssen -> RE: DVG NEWS! (6/30/2010 3:50:11 AM)

There isn't much we can do about VAT, but we have the mailing cost on the site reduced below the actual cost to absorb some of that for our customers. In addition, you wouldn't be paying sales tax, -AND- you get you name on the boxes. [:)]

Dan Verssen -> RE: DVG NEWS! (6/30/2010 3:50:20 AM)

HORNET LEADER
New rules uploaded! - We still need to adjust the columns and layout, but things are looking good for text and art. If you see anything wrong, please let me know.

GUNS BLAZING
We’ll be receiving the sample games from the printer in a few days! We are still on schedule for an August ship date!

JudgeDredd -> RE: DVG NEWS! (6/30/2010 8:28:08 AM)

Dan

Is there no way you could arrange pre-orders from your UK resellers? Like BoardGameExtras? After buying Phantom Leader, I would pre-order this in a heartbeat

If that was possible I would pre-order Hornet Leader and Field Commander: Napoleon

Um that's not quite a computer game with an AI an all that. Looks good though I would certainly buy it if it had an ai that was at least decent. I've always liked the drawings of the DVG games of air warfare.

You didn't ask for a computer game 'with an AI,' nor did you ask for 'an all that.' *hehe/grin* (and it is technically a computer game, albeit a computer adaptation of a game *grin*)

Sorry but anyone who is anyone knows if it's a computer game it "has to have an ai". Anything else is just a prop that uses a computer to calculate battle odds and outcomes like vassal does. That's not a computer "game".

IMO, This is a very narrow view of the term "computer game". I would guess that only a minority of computer users would share such a limited view.

Wow... nice attitude....[:'(]

Also VASSAL does not calculate anything. You still have to do all the calculations yourself. It can do die rolls though.[8D]

There are lots of computer games that actually do compute all the odds and take care of the all rules and such that have no AI and they are computer games.

Name them and by LOTS you better have 100 of them cause there are 10's of thousands of games with AI's.

I also want LINKS to these socalled LOTS of computer games with no ai's that calculate odds blah blah.

At any rate these are not GAMES they are UTILITIES and there's a big difference in a UTILITY and a GAME.

I knew what you wanted and posted a jest, based on the technicalities of the definition (note the "*grin*'s"), but now you're just being silly. *plonk*

VASSAL _can_ do calculations. But more importantly and/or succinctly, they are limited, at best. However, you should see what you can do with dynamic properties and an auto-end-of-movement-key. You can do a lot just with those two capabilities. For instance, several years ago I had a Firepower module auto-calculating and displaying all height-units for the player(s). Not exciting, but technically a calculation. *grin*
