On the second day I managed to slow Damp's advance and inflict some casualties on his forces. He didn't take much ground, however he has a good hold on the farm in the south and the northern end of town. This map is not going well for me. I keep losing heavy tanks. An action shot from the next day's battle on the map. I made some markings where his tank destroyer had picked off my T-34/85 and ISU122. You can see my BG is hurting pretty badly. The battle map...you can see Damp found the weak point in my line to the south and had started to move a few infantry squads into my rear. I had a single medium MG team guarding the southern dirt road running southwest to northeast. He managed to move by them through the woods. These shots actually come from the 2nd day of battle on this map. I forgot to grab some from the first... You can see the wreck of an IS2 in the woods northeast of my 100mm AT gun. On the first day on this map the fight was really by AT and armor across that small field. Damp kicked my ass....an IS2, ISU152 and 100mm AT gun all died the first day. On this day I've positioned my units a bit differently. I figured Damp would try to fight across the field again so I positioned my AT and T-34 to the south to hit him in flank when he emerged from the tree line. In the north around my infantry teams I marked out a wreck from the first day. It was a tank destroyer that I managed to catch with infantry positioned in the same trenches. I marked out a tank destroyer in the woods as well. To the south of the road I've marked out a King Tiger and the T-34/85 it killed as I brought it out to engage it. 9 minutes later... A few things... In the north you can see a destroyed Ferdinand. I managed to catch it in the rear with my 100mm AT gun in the woods that has since been killed. You can see that the tank destroyer has seriously damaged my infantry squads in the area. There are also several of his infantry squads in woods nearby but they aren't readily apparent. In the south the King Tiger sits burning from a combo of infantry attacks and the T-34/85 that I moved down from the tree line. The southern crossing. I've marked the King Tiger in the woods. It managed to 1 shot both MG teams in the buildings which I've also marked out in red. He never moved it so that my 100mm AT in the woods to the east could get a shot on it. The assault team in the building on the southern side of the bridge suffered from both the KT and infantry attacks but managed to hold on. The western crossing. Once again a 88mm gun on a armored vehicle took out my two MG squads covering the bridge with 1 shots. It really pissed me off. You can see the losses that have already been inflicted on my BG by this point. Note the MG teams KIA. I did at least prevent him from establishing a bridgehead on this day. I didn't get any actions shots on day 2 but Damp did get a bridgehead on the western crossing. My BG was hurting from the first day and on this day I lost another IS-2. I swear in our last few days of play he's killed at least 10-13 IS-1/2s on the battlefield. Really pissed me off since they aren't cheap! What an engagement here. Damp packed two King Tiger into his small bridgehead. I positioned a 100mm AT gun in the building to the north. You can see the wreck of my command IS2 just south of it. I've got infantry occupying several buildings. I managed to kill one of the KT's with my AT gun before it was taken out. I also immediately lost a T-34/85 command tank the second this game started. It was painful. I would later lose the northern T-34 as well. This was our last battle for the night. The fight continues... In this shot it's 10 minutes into the battle. Damp is shooting his bolt here as this is his last day of his last offensive. He's forced a King Tiger and Jagdtiger across the bridge and I'd managed to use my 100mm AT to kill the KT. (Green dot) The Jagd is the yellow dot. The small red dot was a rifle team that tried to kill the jagd and failed. To the southeast of them is a bazooka team that is waiting for it to move closer. The Final Operation of the Der Ost Front 2 Grand Campaign... What a bloody start. I had planned to send armor down on the open plain in the south however there was a jagdtiger on the hill. As I crossed the river it didn't into a damn ****show as fire erupted from everywhere. Tanks were brewing up...soldiers screaming...not a good start. After the defeat he handed me on the first map Damp wanted to withdraw... Here's the battle result of my attack on the town. I was going to force my way into that town no matter the cost...and that cost was high. I sent a T-35/85 and 2 squads of infantry through the small woods on the northern edge of the map. I wanted them to capture that northern VL. Damp had stationed a jagdtiger on the hill between the roads...it along with some hidden AT guns brewed up quite a few of my tanks. Towards the end of my securing a foothold in the town. Note the jagdtiger on the hill. Then note the 3 burned out tanks. 2 IS2s and a T-34/85. You can also see where Damp was dropping 120mm mortars onto my small attack force. Most of them have reached the crossroads in the northern section of town.
