STUCKER868 -> How is the A.I. when compared to the original WIP? (5/14/2010 2:42:43 AM)

Hey all,

Been trolling around in the forums but I have been putting off buying this thing because I am fearful that the A..I might be worse than the original WIP. I recently re-installed my old copy of War In The Pacific, along with the latest patch and after playing around with it for a few hours I realized again why I had un-installed it before (about six times now.) The A.I. is attrocious at best.... (Japan does not have a clue as what it should do after 1942 and a computer controlled Allies can be worse. Playing as the Allies, I finally became tired of running around with two light cruisers in the Java Sea and sinking 20 to 30 lightly or unescorted Japanese troop transports (full of now dead troops.) I won't even mentioned what the battle group (Prince of Wales etc.) from Singapore did to the invasion force landing in the Northern Phillipines. Needless to say, the damage done to the Japanese strategic infrastructure was bad, and all of this before 12-20-41. It's a shame because I marvel at all incredible hard work put into this otherwise amazing game.

My main questions to you guys: Is "Admirals Edition" better or worse on the A.I. end of it? My guess is that because of more detail, the A.I. would have to suffer. Should I buy this game?

Thanks for any advice.

You can check many threads on this exact subject. Short version...much better AI and worth buying

WITP AE AI = Spruance (not quite a Halsey)

WITP AI = Gomer Pile

the AI 'cheats' more in AE, but it does make for a more challenging game. If you throw it off too badly it will still do some strange things though, and will not come close to a human opponent.
