Astorax -> Stealth Questions (5/14/2010 9:06:47 PM)

Hey guys, I have a similar thread in The War Room but it didn't seem to be getting much attention so I decided to move it here to General.

1. Does the stealth effect ..er affect just a proximity array or does it also affect a long range scanner?

2. I noticed you can put them on bases etc - will this hide them from creatures?

Any hard info on this would be appreciated.

It does say that it minimizes ship visibility "particularly at long range", if this means long range sensors beats me. It has the same info on stealth on both of the sensors pages, im guessing this means it works similar on both of them. When the ship is near the edge of the scanners range it works better, so I guess this means that long range sensors would detect them farther away? and the stealth visibility range of the stealth component is the minimum range it can remain cloaked before it becomes visible?

edit: Ah, i see.

Apparently it reduces the the range of enemy sensors kind of.

So if a ships size is exactly equal to its stealth rating, its as if enemy sensors are only 50% of their normal range when looking for that particular ship. Im assuming it does the same for both, just different ranges??

more questions than answers in this thread it seems

me i think they don't really do anything really useful against the AI, but I would really like to know if the AI actually does something useful with them

I have used stealth on my scout ships (size 200), and it actually seemed to make a big difference, they are rarely ever even spotted by pirates, let alone attacked. I put good sensors and huge sublight engines on my scout ships, so they spot opponents before the opponent can see them, and then turn tail and run. :P
