virgil_182 -> Thank you, for an epic gaming experience ! (5/16/2010 4:33:58 PM)

Distant Worlds is amazing. It feels, and plays, like a mix between Europa Universalis III and the board game Twilight Imperium III.

My game play experience so far has been epic. It plays like a grand space opera, I haven't had a game fire my imagination like this for years.

I was on the fence, I have tried virtually every modern strategy game and most are pale fractions of their marketing hype. Distant Worlds is the first one I've found since discovering the paradox gems years ago that not only lives up to it's claims, but so far in my game play is exceeding them, beyond my wildest expectations !

I'm sure there are bugs, but I have yet to find any. I expect that any I find will be easy enough to work around by role playing them into the context of my game, or using a few simple house rules so as not to "game" the AI. In fact my experience so far has been an AI that plays remarkably competently, and well. It has been very few games, only a handful, in which I have seen AI opponents use a mix of military, diplomacy, espionage, and economy in a way that feels realistic.

Distant Worlds is amazingly complex, deep, and breathtakingly alive.

This is why I post. To show a small bit of support for a dying breed. In a world full of button mashing, mindlessly stupid, console kiddie crap, we NEED developers like this, and games like this. This is a game that I would have attempted to create, were I a game developer.

Bravo !

I join myself to virgil_182 to say how huge is the game experience given by Distant World!

Great job CodeForce!

(it's pretty funny to see a forum with so many 'thank you' thread, it is so rare today)

100% agreed! Even though I play on consoles also, games like Distant Worlds really remind me why I still consider my ol' PC the main gaming platform.
Distant Worlds has all the right things to make it to the cult classic! Once again, thanks to the Code Force!

The Twilight Imperium 3 is a great game. I own and play it myself. Great game. I would say that of DWs as well.

Twilight Imperium is a euro-game at its core. The sci fi, economic, and combat elements are kind of tacked on to what is at essence a "race" to score points.

DW is more like EU, but it is not quite as elegant or immersive.

EU is very good.

every acronym made up from those letters rules!

I would like to add my thanks too!
After reading about the game a little it sounded too good to pass up even if there might be a few rough edges that still need to be worked out.
I can't say that I was dissapointed. Indeed, I have been hoping to see more grand stratedgy games in which there is (at least as an option) a real private sector. Most games of this sort immitate a "command economy," which is maybe fine as an option but not as the only way to go or even as a default stance really.
In many ways I must honestly say that this is the most ideal space empire game that I have played and I have played most of them (MoO 1-3, GC2, SE IV-V, SotS).
After a few days playing I have really gotten into the game.
(Only real complaint is that the finding of many amandoned ships seems to give too much advantage to the human player as the CPU does not seem, at least in my brief experience, to take good advantage of these gems (although I do like the planet destroyers, just think that abandoned ships are perhaps too many in number overall).
