Wenla -> Strange financial behaviour (5/19/2010 1:03:14 PM)

I'm still playing (1.04) as a 'test mode', meaning that I'm learning game mechanics and testing different kind of scenarios. While my "Peace with Aliens" (no war and how in long run I can (or can I) conquer other race just with financial methods) game I noticed at year 2808 (135 coolonies, 79 systems, max corruption 66%, 4,5M at bank, population 18120M, Annual Colony Tax Revenue 550)) that my cash flow went in red, and stayed there. That happens if I spend more than I earn, and I stopped immediatelly troop recryting, then ship production and finally colonization. I keeped my eye on financial (Empire) screen and noticed that it was ACTR which decreased fast and steadily. It shouldn't do that, beacuse my population increased as fast and steadily as ACTR went down. There was nothing I could do (or at least I didn't know), just watch entering bankcrupt. It was really near when it turned other way at year 2831. That time my ACTR was 306, at bank I had 0,2M, population was about 50000M, 142 colonies. Now it's year 2839, I have 8,2M at bank, max corruption is 82%, ACTR is little over 500 and my cash flow stays just and just in black. I can again build ships and recrute troops, and most important, I can colonize again. How long, it will be seen...

And now a question: why Annual Colony Tax Revenue drops when population grows?

I have a feeling (no fact) that ACTR decrease depens more of population growing speed than actual population number (volume). The fact is that ACTR decrease stopped when population growing stopped, NOT when I stopped colonization.

I'm not succesting that this behavior is bug, but it may be. If it's not a bug, what it is?

Any comments? Anybody else seen this?

It is/was a bug (or design flaw) that is supposed to have been addressed in the latest two Beta patches.

Corruption was not working as intended. I personally was seeing 76% corruption with around 140 - 150 Colonies.

Hi Wenla,

Unfortunately that is indeed a bug. The intended corruption cap wasn't working in 1.0.4.5. It is in the 1.0.4.7 Public Beta, if you want to give that a try on your existing save game it should solve the economic issues you are seeing.

Regards,

- Erik

Thanks for the information, both. I'll wait official patch. Like I said, I so far like to test different scenarios and I was affraid that long, epic (and often as peaceful as possible) games are impossible.

Actually they are More possible than Long Epic War games are.

About 1/2 the races/species in this game Can Not support extended War without collapsing from internal revolutions. So DW trends to the builder side more than the War monger side. I personally would like to see more balance in this issue. If I play the peaceful republic human not only should I be able to build an economic empire but I Should be able to wage an extended war without my Empire splintering into pieces. The process of revolutions (as it stands now) makes colonies Too susceptible to revolt. BUt many ppl like this type of feature, others like me don't really care for it as it is now.

I've found that it's easier if you wait (or make [:D] ) the AI declare war on you.
This way you don't take the Rep hit and can wage war for a bit longer.
