taltamir -> no more popups (5/20/2010 7:13:12 PM)

it would be really nice if instead of game pausing popups, aliens who have something to tell me would instead cause a scrolling notice which I can review at my leisure or ignore. ideally they would have their own "place" in the interface rather then joining them to existing systems (like the popups or the right and scrolling at the top).

I really don't want to have the game pause every 2 seconds so the other empires could nag at me with the same requests over and over...
also, a general idea of what the trade is for would be good, so I can ignore all requests to remove my troops from their system and requests to trade galaxy maps, but look into other offers, such as trades. also, have my "ministers" "auto-accept" gifts from other empires graciously, notifying me via standard interface without pausing the game for a popup.

EDIT:
Ideally, I would like to see a "ticker" on the left of the screen which shows the last 4 offers made to you, which you can then click to bring them up... you know what, I will go make a mockup.

EDIT2:
here is a mockup... its not the most polished and there is certainly better placements / color choices / etc. just to give a general idea of what I mean:

EDIT3: note that there is still the normal ticker at the top and mini popups on the right, I do not suggest modifying those as they work well. but rather, add a new spot for contact from other empires (it is important enough to warrant its own interface spot... but not import enough to pause the game with a full popup)

Bartje -> RE: no more popups (5/20/2010 7:14:01 PM)

Seconded!

Is this in wishlist already?

taltamir -> RE: no more popups (5/20/2010 10:08:09 PM)

I seem to have spelled "trade offer" as "thrade offer"... oops :P

/signed

Awesome idea!

Bartje -> RE: no more popups (5/21/2010 8:51:34 AM)

That mockup is very good, they could implement it into the game just like that and it'd work [:)]

I would very much like to see this!

Astax -> RE: no more popups (5/21/2010 10:44:20 AM)

I NEED THIS!!!

+1

BTW taltamir this mockup sort of reminds me of the popups that the EU series also has were you inspired from that side?

EU has excelent concepts but its just too abstract for my tastes. I love being able to see the private sector at work.

It makes the difference between spreadsheet like EU3 and galactic strategy simulation game DW.

These popups / message alerts would be a great time saver!

Plus if they are implemented this way they are really accesible as well as obvious!

Kudos!

Astax -> RE: no more popups (5/21/2010 4:21:22 PM)

Oh god plz dont talk about EU! The few games I attempted to play have haunted me for years!

you know, I never actually played EU3

d.erlemeyer@gmx.de -> RE: no more popups (5/21/2010 6:03:08 PM)

That might be me and my crappy computer, but those pesky AI controlled empires keep proposing something just when the game starts to autosave, thus prolonging the arduous process to even greater legth.
This might speed it up. [:'(]

Anyhow, I'd like to see something like this as well. And be it just that I can properly ignore them while waging war, without having to click 'em away.

scotten_usa -> RE: no more popups (5/21/2010 7:08:02 PM)

Awesome idea... reminds me of EU3.

EisenHammer -> RE: no more popups (5/22/2010 12:09:34 AM)

Good idea, they should add this.

Simulation01 -> RE: no more popups (5/25/2010 2:39:36 AM)

I vote for this idea.

the1sean -> RE: no more popups (5/25/2010 2:55:43 AM)

I also like the idea. Reminds of Hearts of Iron... and Europa Universalis, lol. It would be nice if we could setup whether different alerts just were footnoted, sidescrolled, or popupped (I have created new words, deal with it). Again, kinda like the system in various Paradox titles. All of those games are also of the pauseable 4X variety, so it makes sense that we are dealing with very similar issues...

Krelos -> RE: no more popups (5/26/2010 6:57:01 AM)

This would definitely be a great addition.

Dadekster -> RE: no more popups (5/26/2010 6:01:54 PM)

I'll sign this as well as it is sorely needed. They always seem to pop up right in the middle of something and then I get sidetracked. [:-]

Yarasala -> RE: no more popups (5/26/2010 7:18:30 PM)

Perhaps this would then also solve two current issues? They are:

- Messages appearing very shortly after one another so that the first message gets auto-replied with the default answer

- Game not really pausing when the AI "does" diplomacy. It happens very often to me that I pause the game and 30 seconds after that the AI begins nagging me with several diplomatic messages with on top of that un-pause the game on answering ...

If there is a scrolling list as suggested then I suppose it should function in the way that as long as a message is in the list the offer is valid, and it clicked on, the normal diplomatic screen appears and the game is paused until the screen is closed. But then the game is only un-paused when it was running before the message was opened, otherwise it stays in pause mode.

taltamir -> RE: no more popups (5/26/2010 7:47:01 PM)

good point about those bugs.
