LeonTheNeon -> 1.0.3.0/1.0.4.9 - Crash on startup (5/25/2010 1:35:50 PM)

I purchased Distant Worlds over the weekend

After installing, I update to 1.0.4.9. Upon trying to run the game, I get ". I can run it in v1.3, but after installing the patch 1.0.4.9 it fails with error "System.MissingMethodExeception: Method not found 'Void DistantWorlds.Types.GameOptions.set_AutoSaveInterval(Int32) etc".

So I uninstall, reinstall just 1.0.3.0 and I can get into the game but if I try to do anything (tutorial, options, etc) I get the same error.

I noticed on these forums somebody said they patched twice and it fixed a problem. So I patch the game, run it (fails), patch again, run it (fails). I check the AppData folder and sure enough in the 1.0.4.9 folder there two files missing "automationPrefs" and "defaultOptions". I copied the 1.0.3.0 version into the 1.0.4.9 folder, and now I can get into the main menu but it fails when I try to do anything as with 1.0.3.0.

So uninstall again, wipe out the AppData folder, Windows temp folder, wipe the registry clean of any trace of Distant Worlds.

Reinstall again, no good in 1.0.3.0. Update to 1.0.4.9, fails. Upgrade again, fails. Try copying the 1.0.3.0 files again. Fails.

Any thoughts? Suggestions?

Try this.

Grab the tool from #3 here:

http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=2414049

This will clear out .Net errors. Reboot. Do a full install (check both .Net & DX9) of Distant Worlds.

Hopefully that will fix you up, if not, run DXDiag to see if you have any issues with it.

A good suggestion, but it didn't work unfortunately.

Got it working. I ended up installing it on a different drive. I don't like having it on my system drive but at least it works.
