Floyd -> RE: Screen text overlap. (5/28/2010 12:01:40 PM)

Your settings for font display are too high. Set it back to 100% and problem will be fixed.
The games requires 96dpi.

goodwoodrw -> RE: Screen text overlap. (5/28/2010 12:28:55 PM)

Floyd,
Yep ya right, done and fixed, However why is it a problem with this game when it's not an issue on others?
Ron

Floyd -> RE: Screen text overlap. (5/28/2010 3:46:57 PM)

Other games are probably not fixed to 96dpi and can handle variable dpi-settings.
And if i set my browser to larger font sizes most of the websites start to look ugly.

JiminyJickers -> RE: Screen text overlap. (10/4/2011 11:37:02 AM)

It should be fixed. I cannot read text unless the DPI setting is higher.

Glad I haven't bought the game yet, as this would have caused me a lot of strife. It is a lot of money to pay for the game but will happily do it if they fix the DPI bug.

Arjuna -> RE: Screen text overlap. (10/4/2011 12:58:22 PM)

The trouble with supporting variable font size is that we would then have to scale the size of the sidebar and we would run out of vertical space or we would have to completely redesign the sidebar displays and that is a huge job.

JiminyJickers -> RE: Screen text overlap. (10/4/2011 8:07:58 PM)

Oh well, thanks for replying so promptly.

Damn shame, wanted to play this badly but just cant handle that problem. Hopefully in your future games, you will design it to handle the larger 120 DPI setting. Will eagerly check back now and then for that.

Thanks for your time Arjuna, and good luck with your business.

By the way, go the All Blacks, haha. Hopefully the Wallabies and All Blacks face off and have a heart stoppingly close match, and of course the All Blacks pull through to finally get hold of the Rugby World Cup after so many years.

So long as they don't take their inspiration from the Warriors who lost the plot against Manly in the Rugby League and that was with over half of the Sydney crowd barracking against Manly. [:)]

Haha, indeed.

JiminyJickers -> RE: Screen text overlap. (10/5/2011 11:35:05 AM)

Good news. I have found a workaround that will allow you to use a higher DPI setting and have the game show up correctly.[:)]

If you are using Vista (Works in Win 7 too):

1: Where you choose your DPI setting, there is a button down the button that says "Custom DPI...".
2: Under there, there is a tickbox that says, "Use Windows XP style DPI setting" make sure it is not ticked. You can only untick it if you are using the Aero theme.
3: Play the game, all the menus and text show up correctly.[:)]

If you find that some of your other programs are scaled up funny, then make sure you have selected "Disable scaling on high DPI settings" in the programs compatibilty under the right click properties menu.

Unfortunately I don't think it would work on XP. In the past the "Use Windows XP style DPI setting" was automatically ticked and grayed out. Found out today that enabling the Aero theme allows you to change that. I was using Vista Basic theme before.

So happy about this. I am upgrading to Windows 7 this week sometime so will definitely be buying this game when I have completed that.

Bed time in NZ, have a good night all.

Arjuna -> RE: Screen text overlap. (10/5/2011 1:46:28 PM)

JiminyJickers,

Can you show us a screen shot of what it looks like?

Does the text appear small to you?

Lieste -> RE: Screen text overlap. (10/5/2011 5:18:59 PM)

Dave, small text in game can at least be fixed by setting a lower screen resolution. That Vista (and possibly 7) support dual/custom DPI settings allows the use of 120 DPI generally (at high resolution presumably?) while retaining the ability to use an alternate DPI within applications (which in full screen mode allows a compromise to give 'large fonts').

For once, Windoze to the rescue, rather than causing trouble [:D]

JiminyJickers -> RE: Screen text overlap. (10/5/2011 8:22:48 PM)

Hi Arjuna,

The text is a bit small if I use 1920x1080 resolution, but when dropping down to 1600x900 it is readable, although on my screen a little fuzzy as it is not the screens natural resolution.

But the main thing is that I can actually see the commands now. Before couldn't access half the setting for an attack.

Will post a comparison screenshot when I get home tonight.

wodin -> RE: Screen text overlap. (10/5/2011 10:13:42 PM)

So you bought the game then...good work my man...you wont regret it.

Lieste -> RE: Screen text overlap. (10/5/2011 11:39:06 PM)

Possibly... my reading is using the demo still, but you never know :)

JiminyJickers -> RE: Screen text overlap. (10/6/2011 11:07:11 AM)

As promised screenshots of Vista with Scaling enabled. (See next post for after)

Haha, right on the money. Havent bought it yet. Have just bought Windows 7 and will buy it as soon as I have finished the big install.

Looking forward to it.

Wiggum -> RE: Screen text overlap. (10/6/2011 9:16:08 PM)

By the way:

What does the "Clear pattern" part in the conditions mean ?
Clear Skys is "clear" to me, but what is "Clear Pattern" ?

Phoenix100 -> RE: Screen text overlap. (10/6/2011 10:54:49 PM)

Just airforce speak, no?

Wiggum -> RE: Screen text overlap. (10/6/2011 11:02:24 PM)

Mhh, its ingame at least and i always wondered what it means...

Arjuna -> RE: Screen text overlap. (10/6/2011 11:09:06 PM)

Are you referring to the clear weather pattern? If so, you need to understand the difference between the curent weather condition and the prevailing pattern of weeather. Each day will have a pattern of prevailing weather, while each hour will have the current weather. the probabilities ofr the current weather condition are determined by the prevailing weather pattern. Now a clear pattern means a very high probability of clear conditions morning, afternoon and night. Other patterns include snow, rain, late rain and fog.

Does that help?

Wiggum -> RE: Screen text overlap. (10/6/2011 11:16:27 PM)

Thanks, now i understand it.

Has anyone found that this works in Win7 at 120 dpi?

I'm in Win7, and I can check or uncheck "Use Windows XP style DPI setting" and it makes no difference. With 120 dpi (which is better for my eyes), text still runs off the right hand side of its area in the interface. I have to switch my whole system back to 96 dpi to play the game.

I've experimented with everything I know, but I can't seem to find a way around this. I'd love to see it work.

blairfw -> RE: Screen text overlap. (12/14/2012 8:21:29 PM)

Likewise, I have the problem on Windows 7. I restored the windows system from about 6 mo. ago and it corrected the overlap problem. Then I got cockey and restored the origional system for somemore tests; bad idea. This somehow destroyed my old restore point, so back to square one and no joy after all that fiddling.
