Hello everyone,

Just to let people know, I have deleted all my links for the GSB ships.
However on the thread are my "barrenrocks".
There are 3 files Barrenrocks1, 2 and 3.
Just unzip them to the appropriate folder.

That's unfortunate news.  Maybe we should all just take our toys and go home.  Why make something only to hide it.  If this is the wish of the creator of GSB then I will not buy his product ( which I was planning to do ).  I realize I'm only one person, but I really have problems with this kind of response which is only borne of greed ( because no one was making any money off of this and DW did not compete with the niche his game filled ).  I am not anti-capitalist, however I am anti-greed.

Dude, he created the ships for his game GSB. They are his. Sheesh.

Thanks drillerman, for putting your planet images back up! [:)]

Greed? What greed? Protecting something you create? Would the creators of DW be happy if I take all their graphics and put them in SE4? Or Armada 2626?

Simulation01 -> RE: My downloads (5/30/2010 5:43:04 AM)

I have voiced my opinion. I stand by it and will not be moved. I'm voting with my wallet.

@Aurelian......well, if you paid for the game you are free to do what you want with the files you paid for so long as you don't sell it to someone for profit and so long as you are not pirating the game.

@VarekRaith......No one is stealing GSB. What is happening is that people that bought DW are using manipulated images of another game to make DW different. GSB is a different style of game. They are not competing except that they are both games.

I will not buy GSB now....I don't care what you say. The creator of GSB has really bothered me. You can buy a million copy's if you want to, but I won't.

Not possible because, SE4 or Armada2526 uses of the 3d.

And if I created the material being used there are two ways I would react.

If someone asked me nicely, agreed to give me full credit and a percentage of any profits made from it, I'd agree. We'd draw up a contract about how the copyrighted material could be used and I'd honor the contract. It's called Licensing.

If someone took my intellectual property and used it without permission, claimed it as their own, or profited from it, then they'd hear from my lawyer and we'd settle it in court. And I would win.

It's one thing to modify stuff on your personal computer for your personal use. And while that is technically against most EULAs, most won't do anything about it. However, when you release it publicly then it is a problem, that is no longer for your personal use.

I don't care what you call it, I call it breaking the law, and that makes it wrong no matter what. People with your attitude are the exact reason copyright laws exist.

You will notice the only mods I have released are material I created myself. By releasing material of my creation to the public domain, then I have made the decision to give up my copyright claim...but that is the point, *I* made that decision. The creator of GSB has decided to profit from his intellectual property...he has not given up his copyright claim and he is well within his rights to do it.

It's not that hard to ask permission. Begging forgiveness can get very painful.

Simulation01 -> RE: My downloads (5/30/2010 5:27:12 PM)

@Shark7...

I completely reject your statement.  If you can't recognize the difference then you are simply lost to the corporate ideology of the contemporary world.  It's profit above everything and ownership even after having been sold.  I recognize that company's walk a fine line when it comes to intellectual copyrights, and it is hard sometimes to see where that line is.  I believe that in terms of this situation that line has been crossed.  I will remember.  You and those that believe as you do are poisoning the well of good will.  I will say no more on this, my feelings are known.

Shark7 -> RE: My downloads (5/30/2010 8:03:57 PM)

Actually, this one can be deleted, I'm not going to hi-jack this thread.

drillerman -> RE: My downloads (5/30/2010 8:12:29 PM)

Simulation01,

I think you need to be a bit more pragmatic about this. I asked a simple question to the owner of something I wanted to use, the owner didn't say no, he said he was "uncomfortable" about me using his property. So I decided after thinking about it, that I would not use his property in this way. It was as simple as that. It was my decision.
So why not just move on and respect the owners views, I did!

Thanks

Erik Rutins -> RE: My downloads (5/31/2010 2:47:56 AM)

I respect Drillerman's decision and I think the creator of GSB is well within his rights to feel uncomfortable with his art being reused when he's got a new/current game in the same genre and he paid a good bit of money to create unique art for it. That's why I also asked nicodede to get permission earlier. Mods can be a gray area in terms of some intellectual property and it always seems fair to me to ask for permission. If you don't get a clear "yes, no problem" then don't go ahead with it.

Keep in mind that GSB is more than just another game, it's another Sci-Fi game with space battles and space ship art made by a single developer in a pretty tough market. I think there's more than enough content for DW mods out there (or just create something new) without having to step on another developer's toes.

Regards,

- Erik

madpainter -> RE: My downloads (5/31/2010 12:25:49 PM)

I don't see what the problem is.
If I buy GSB I can use their files. I haven't so I can't.
Thank you drillerman for sharing so far.[&o]

the1sean -> RE: My downloads (6/1/2010 3:30:35 AM)

I have GSB (great game, buy it) and now I own DW. People dont pay for mods, so using game art in a mod isnt for profit; its for fans to enjoy. So yeah, mods are a gray area. I totally understand that GSB is still actively selling. Maybe some time down the road we can enjoy a GSB tribute mod, but until then lets respect the wishes of the creator. Most knowledgeable gamers will realize that the games arent direct competitors because they are so different, but they do compete for the sci-fi pc-gamer's dollar, so I can understand the hesitancy...
