Is there a way past the sudden death BS?

All this does is force you to run missions when you should NOT do so.
And pad the Luftwaffe ace scores

Hard Sarge -> RE: sudden death (6/1/2010 2:15:51 AM)

need more details

what is the date, what is the score, what are your tactics ?

if nothing else, BC should be able to hold you with in the score range until you can match up with the LW

Nicholas Bell -> RE: sudden death (6/1/2010 3:48:06 PM)

I am now in February 1944 and November and December 1943 were rough because of weather.  My score dropped to AS 2, Industrial Damage 1, and Terror Bombing 13.  As HS points out, it's the Bomber Command campaign which enabled me to hang in there - and I've got a tough opponent - me.  You can push the BC missions in bad weather because they are not much effected.  Proper use of RCM missions keeps BC losses below 2% most of the time for me.

In January I had a few breaks in the weather and more & better escorts.  Now in February the weather clears up nice occasionally and with 1200+ 8 FC escorts I can go nearly anywhere.  My Industrial Damage score is back up to 5, and with continued BC raids the Terror Bombing score is 15.  And now the Allied fighter pilots are "padding" their victory scores. [:D]

The sudden death conditions are necessary as the Allied Player could otherwise do nothing and the ground war would automatically win the war for the Allies.  While I would prefer to see the program slow the Allied ground advance if the Allied player doesn't do enough damage bombing, this would required a major code reworking which is not in the cards.

Ah, I thought it was just me that my ID was not getting anywhere and I'm still only 40 turns into the campaign.  I see that probably after D-Day the egg will break and allied bombers and fighters can do their job more effectively .

Hard Sarge -> RE: sudden death (6/1/2010 5:43:46 PM)

most of it depends on the target type, point targets are needed to "kill" production type, but most times are worth very little (unless Crit level is reached)

area and RR targets are worth more points (BC gets a bonus, so to speak, they tend to hit both) but don't really do long term damage to the point type targets

(hitting RR and Area, will not stop Aircraft production, it may screw with it, but not stop it)

Rob Brennan UK -> RE: sudden death (6/2/2010 4:18:15 PM)

Hope i don't get an auto win playing the axis from the 43 campaign. But as others noted the weather for the allies has been awful in December (nov was fine by contrast) and the game now shows up AS2 Industry damage -2 or -1 (but seems to revert to 0 at end turn) and Terror 12.. BC is a pain in the backside but i'm almost finished getting rid of the 110's in favour of 88C6's and 219 R2's (i think).

whats up with the -1 and -2 ? not a show stopper but may affect players being allied. Just a thought anyway.

Nicholas Bell -> RE: sudden death (6/2/2010 9:26:35 PM)

Rob,

To prevent a sudden death victory the Allied player must score and maintain a total of 2 VPs per month.  With AS 2 and Terror at 12 the Allied should be okay for approximately 7 months from start (14 divided by 2).  This puts you well past the bad winter weather, and hopefully your AI opponent will start up bombing again so you can "enjoy" the rest of the war [:)].   Must admit in all the tests I have run I've never seen the AI controlled BC do as well - they normally only bomb a few times a month.  Seems you are getting your money's worth out of the AI.  Once the P-51s start swarming you might have wished "General Weather" had given you an auto-victory. [;)]

Hard Sarge -> RE: sudden death (6/3/2010 4:03:29 PM)

plus it can depend on which strat the AI picked for the game, some can be pretty dang good, but others are pretty bad

jimbo12 -> RE: sudden death (6/20/2010 12:50:01 PM)

I had never played Btr as I have been a BOB player. While I was waiting for the upgraded OB files for BOB I decided to try the german 43 campaign as the german and was hooked. I am currently on turn 425 with AS 2 ID 33 and T 20 and am praying for bad weather. This has really been fun and there were times I felt the AI was to easy but I feel right now like I have little hope. I have close to a 4 to1 kill ratio and my ME 262's are really cool and I am using them to soften up big bomber stacks en mass then bringing in everything else which seems be helping with losses. So far the AI hasn't found them but based on my experience it won't be long. Haven't decided which is better, guns or rockets. Had a real Nasty suprise and was upset til I realized I should have guessed it was coming DUH! Won't spoil it for you guys as it might happen to you. Having played this I don't know if I am in the game or not but I am going to fight to the last pilot and plane. My aces have been badly shot up, luck I think, and an area which I think I can do better next time is to better preserve my moral and fatige.

Don't know how many people have acually finish a game but I am going to join that club win or lose. My biggest decision might be whether to start a new game as the german or allies or try those new BOB files!

Great Game!

Many Thanks!!

wernerpruckner -> RE: sudden death (6/20/2010 8:11:47 PM)

Great to see that the Allied AI can put up a good fight!

harley -> RE: sudden death (6/22/2010 7:40:59 AM)

Jimbo,

PM me your save. I'd like to look at what strategy the AI picked - some are markedly better than others.

fljaweiu -> RE: sudden death (2/12/2011 5:25:10 AM)

For friendly games, I noticed the referee whistles beat at almost every ball game, or straddle the ball etc but it is not pointed directly at the player and the falls ... this is really annoying every few seconds if you want someone to take away the ball he whistles .
