Sturmbannfuhrer -> Anyone knows where to get V7.11 ? (7/29/2002 10:41:19 PM)

I'm not satisfied with 7.1, my oppinion, its boring and not encouraging to play with...I still think 6.0 was much better...
Why ? I dont like certain things...let me sumarize them...

My tanks are easily routed by small arms fire...and i mean easily...compared to the enemy's...2 mortar misses and they're retreating...!and thats half my squad of six retreating...how am i suppose to kill enemies like that... I'm using PzIII and fighting Stuarts...and i can never hold my position...sux really...my tank keeps running back and forth and can't even rally even with hq is nearby

Enemy fire seems deadlier to me than i am to them...Stuarts get to knock out my PzIIIh from a single shot from quite a distance even from an odd angle and my shots bounce of armor of Vickers Medium a light tank and that is from 3 hexes from the front...takes me 3 tanks to kill one...even my ambush backfired on me...enemy has 3 chances to return fire while i get only 2 and that also got sabotaged...coz they didn't allow my tanks to fire but my infantry...WHAT THE HELL IS THIS...? why cant i use my tanks instead even when they're well dug in...Enemy entrenched...seems harder to move them away from their position with artillery fire...they still are able to hold position with slight suppression...compared to mine...enemy tanks are so accurate even when they're moving and just came out of artillery fire...

In short...my tanks are made out of paper and i am fightin real tanks...I've even reduced their armor to 70% and 88mm rounds bounce off stuarts armor...WHAT THE HELL IS THIS...!!! Picture it...20 Tiger I defeated by stuarts...thats rediculous...i keep running back and forth and letting them fire at my rear when my tank is retreating...

Infantries die like flies when compared to the enemies...i have to use 4-5 rounds to terminate a sqd...mine dies with just 3...mortar misses makes them routed permanently...how can i use infantries like that...

IT'S NOT FAIR TO ME...HOW COME THE AI HAS SUCH AN ADVANTAGE TIPPED OVER TO THEIR SIDE !!!

So this are just some of my dislikes bout 7.1...I'm very sorry if i speak like that...i ussually dont...but i'm so hot...i almost smashed my pc for it...please help...i'm not saying that spwaw is bad...i love the game...but i am in deep distress...:( Please do help...i had my pc reformatted but the game isn't makin my life easier...i always end up frustrated...

Anyone can help me solve this problem...i love this game but for the time being i'm playin some lame game...and i dont like it...
PLEASE DO HELP PLEASE !!!

I set up a very quick test, just to see if the Tigers suck or not;

20 Tigers vs. 34 M3's. The M3's are placed at distances from 23 to 29 hexes from the Tigers, so the can't kill anything just cause some suppression at best. The 7 M3's at 23 hexes are placed in fortified hexes.

Result: Tigers - M3's: 30-0 after two turns :D M3's got to shoot first, and all Tigers got hit at least once from the 37mm. TWO of these 30 survived more than one hit at +25 hexes. One survived a front hull hit, the other got its tracks blown off. They brewed nicely when it a second time. All the other 28 exploded on impact.

I just mean to say that Tigers ARE lethal. Have you tried the 7.1 OOB pach? Delete the steel.prf file? etc.

Btw, I did see some interesting results in lost men. A M3 has a crew of 4, right? 30 dead M3's and I could count to 24 survivors, meaning US men losses= 30 * 4 - 24 = 96 men

Now, hth could the U.S. lose 170 men? :confused: I've been in doubt about the headcount for a while, but It'd be nice to see some explanation.

Sturmbannfuhrer -> (7/29/2002 11:43:43 PM)

those of my tanks destroyed have only 2 crews if i'm lucky coz most of them DIES...

Sturmbannfuhrer -> (7/29/2002 11:46:43 PM)

i lost 34 men...for 1 pzIII and 1 PZIVe...i wonder where the hell the others came from...?

Please anyone,if u got the link to 7.11...care to share it with me coz I NEED IT DESPARATELY !

Sturmbannfuhrer -> (7/29/2002 11:48:58 PM)

i forgot to tell that all was alright when i upgraded my v6.0 to v7.11 directly without 7.1...eversince i put in 7.1 it turned into a nightmare...

Belisarius -> (7/29/2002 11:50:22 PM)

The 7.1 OOB fix can be found at Fabio's

The Armor Site!

Hope this helps. :)

Sturmbannfuhrer -> (7/29/2002 11:52:56 PM)

yup i got mine from there...now i just want to get 7.11

Supervisor -> (7/30/2002 12:36:29 AM)

There is no SPWAW 7.11 the only update since 7.1 is the 7.11 or 7.1x (one in the same) OOB update.

G_X -> (7/30/2002 6:43:00 AM)

Huh...I've never had a PzIII die in one hit unless it was against some heavy tanks...

I also don't use tanks to hold positions, Infantry do a much better job of siting there in holes trying to stop people from moving, I keep my Panzer Companies in the back ready to ram forward with a counterstrike....

I've seen the AI Brits, who are known for not breaking and running, just up and haul *** back to their retreat hex from a single panzer company driving towards them, while my soldiers sit there hunkered down and pop shots off the entire time, rarely getting suppressed.

Mortars also I believe only suppress the hex they hit, unlike Large Bore Arty (155mm, 8", 220mm, 203mm...so on) Which can supress up to 2 hexes away! I'd be scared if a 8" wide shell landed 100 yards away too! :eek:

My 7.1x oobs I don't think are installed right (Heh...) So could anyone tell me how to properly install them while we're talking about them? The OOBs in the folder were .txts, while the new ones have no extension on them.

Supervisor -> (7/30/2002 7:31:17 AM)

OOB files are classified as data files (with no extensions) specific to the game, they belong in the MatrixGames\Steel Panthers World at War main directory, the files in the OOB directory are old text files from revisions made to OOBs in previous versions of SPWAW, in today game that directory really doesn't serve any purpose.

G_X -> (7/30/2002 7:50:09 AM)

:rolleyes: Well that explains the lack of changes.

I'll get on fixing that right away...

Just another question, will it hurt a PBEM game if I change my .oobs in the middle of it?

If yes...I guess it'll have to wait.

Supervisor -> (7/30/2002 8:46:10 AM)

You and your opponent will see security warnings which you can override but you should still be able to continue without causing to much grief.

G_X -> (7/30/2002 10:26:44 AM)

Ahh allrighty, I was worried about the stats of his and my units changing in game really?

Not sure about how that'd work...

Les_the_Sarge_9_1 -> (7/30/2002 6:10:00 PM)

Sturmbannfuhrer, just checking, but you do know about Combat Leader correct?

There is no 7.11 to the best of my knowledge either (unless you heard about some private individual convinced they can do it better than Matrix).

I play with 7.1 myself, the game exhibits no "wierd" results. I can only assume somehow a person has mangled an install or botched an update if the game allows unusual alterations of statistical results.

Any that feel there is something "wrong" with 7.1 will have to settle for that line up over there (pointing at Combat Leader Forum). Get your wallet out though as Combat Leader isn't "free".

But the only thing past 7.1 from Matrix is a game called Combat Leader.

For all the new people to Matrix, sorry guys the days of endless revisions to SPWaW are done (that is an "unofficial" statement by a poster that has seen all the "official" staff comments though).

tracer -> (7/30/2002 8:10:01 PM)

I think I found the cause of alot of this OOB confusion. In this thread last month http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=21189 there was a link (since removed) to an OOB set that contained 3 files that were dated after 4/7/02 and was missing a 4th.

I only remembered this thread this morning and now see that all OOBs in the SPWAW directory should have a date of 4/7/02. Four of mine do NOT and are probably the root of some of the other problems I've posted recently.

The OOB set on Fabio's site http://www.fprado.com/armorsite/sp_waw.htm contains 28 files, all dated April 7th.

Sturmbannfuhrer -> (7/31/2002 11:45:44 PM)

I d/l the so called version 7.11 b4...worked fine and liked it...but i had my pc reformatted...so now i'm stuck with 7.1...yuck...i dont think its fair that the ai always put u in bad weathers or night warfares...even in the first few rounds...night assault with vissibility of 3...if i'm lucky...sandstorm etc...sux man...already the ai outnumber u,n u have to beat them when u'r tank crew cant even fire straight...plus the damage advantage they hold...i'd loose 9 out of my 11 tanks b4 i reach even in front of my objectives...

is the 7.1(x) still available currently...i'm willing to try coz i cant stand 7.1 anymore...i cant think or plan or even sleep peacefully...
MAN !!! U GUYS GOTTA HELP ME !!! PLEASE !!!

Supervisor -> (8/1/2002 2:27:22 AM)

7.11 b4 was actually one of the many beta versions leading to the final product of the official 7.1. Trust me I tested every 7.1 beta version. Usually during testing we start with say 7.1b, but if we make changes to it and it requires more testing it may becomes 7.11b then 7.12b etc that way we can keep track of beta progression. 7.1 is the latest and greatest of all those 7.1xb versions. The only thing since 7.1 is an OOB update that is called 7.11 or 7.1x(one in the same) that can be found at both The Armor Site and Tankheads SPWAW Resources. We did the same thing for beta tesing of patches for Uncommon Valor, during patch testing the last beta was numbers 1.16b but because of all of the additions and corrections made we decided to number it as 1.20 in the final product. So if you have 7.1 then you have the latest game engine (mech.exe).

Les_the_Sarge_9_1 -> (8/1/2002 4:57:00 AM)

gmenfan that 7.11 you said was at Tankheads, what exactly is it. I mean 7.11 is a progression from 7.1 naturally enough.
But I don't myself feel like chasing after personal pet variations of the official software at this time.

Is it worth going and getting it?

Supervisor -> Sorry Les (8/1/2002 5:21:01 AM)

Sorry if I wasn't clearer Les these are the updated OOB's that you already have not new game versions.

Les_the_Sarge_9_1 -> (8/1/2002 8:01:42 AM)

Thanks gmenfan thought that was the case but the posts were leading me off on a lark I guess.
