I write this AAR as a reply to JonRebs AAR of the Allied side – we play John IIIs Reluctant Admiral scenario. You will have to bear with me as English is not my first language – and I am learning of writing AAR as I do it. I wish JonReb good luck and now please go from this page.

I am intent to win this war – not just hold Allies off but destroy their ability and will to fight on. To do this I need to fight intelligent – with skillful fuel and resource management. The Basic plan is to take the refineries and resources that I need – while not place too much undue distance on were the fuel and finished supply have to be moved to.

It is now January 7 1941 in our game – so I will basically move though my current operations – then I will tell of my future plans – but because of real life this will take of several day.

Pearl Harbor strike – I raid for 2 days and sink in raids or after 5 Battleship and 10 other vessel – probably leaving with damage another 15 vessels. I also destroy about 40 of the aircraft based at Pearl Harbor.

I capture Wake some days later with the aid of the Carrier Striking Force as it retire from Pearl Harbor raid. The Carrier Striking Force also locates and destroys a Allied transport force advancing on Wake.

I capture Makin and Tarawa Islands early and Nauru just today. Also in South East I take Rabaul Kavieng Manus Early - but only take Shortlands Island yesterday.

In Celebes Sea area I take Davao early – landing 56th division less 1 regiment. I also take Manado early and develop seaplane base – I also take Sorong 2 day ago.

In Luzon I land at standard beaches in north on second day – I also land in south at Naga because it has better port than of Legaspi. The Allied devil conducts some very skillful destroyer raids against my northern beachheads and sinks and damages a number of transports. There were covering forces of Cruisers and destroyers present when these raids took place – but they did not intercept or damage the enemy till their third raid.

I did not land at Lagayen but instead landed second flight of force at San Fernando – this was because a large enemy force was advancing on Lagayen. I managed to get one and one half divisions dug in at Lagayen – so when the enemy attacked my forces managed to hold. Two day later I counter attack at Lagayen and the enemy retreats back to Clark Field with heavy loss.

I Take Hong Kong on 30 December 1941 only after bringing another infantry regiment from Canton. Kucking and Miri on the Sarawak coast were taken early - and started to build up of Kuching as major IJAAF base to support the landings at Singkawang - but major Allied naval forces intervened. In three major naval battles off Kuching I lost the fast Battleship Haruna and the light Cruiser Isuzu - and the enemy the Battle cruiser Repulse and four Allied Cruisers. But a week later an Allied force including the Battleship Prince of Whales bombarded the airfield at Kucking putting it and all aircraft out of commission. This forced me to cancel the Singkawang landing which was about to start - and wait till I could neutralize the Allied naval threat.

Malaya is a standard operation - but with no landings below Kota Bharu which I took on the second day of the war. I see no need for any southern landings in Malaya - as you are just giving the RAF targets - as you can't get to Singapore any faster by landing at Kuantan - and landing at Mersing is just crazy.

And do not worry too much about your English, for many of us it is a native language and we still have trouble mastering it ourselves.

Do you have any long-term goals?

Northern Australia? Ceylon? Hawaii? The Aleutians?

Thank you TheLoneGunman - yes I will post at later date of detailed war stratagem. The basic theme is to defend fuel and resource productions though defensive strong points system - while aggressively seeking out and engaging of enemy heavy forces under my long range air search.

Both Northern Australia and Ceylon fit my strategic framework - but Hawaii and Aleutians do not.

Report for January 8 - 1942

Day start bad in early morning with I-155 hitting mine off Java east coast south of Batavia - she sink later in day. Escorts of convoy report damaging enemy submarine in depth charge attack south of Saigon. Then 1 Carrier Striking Force destroyers drive off enemy submarine trying to penetrate screen of force - as it streams south though Makassar Strait on operation 24. Also one submarine contact in Home Island area - but highlight of night is when I-15 torpedoes AK Steel Ranger south east of Johnston Island.

Two or three IJAAF raids in China though out of day also - and another two raids in Luzon launched by IJAAF. 1 Carrier Striking Force raids on Soerabaja badly effected by weather with only morning air search - recon of southern ports and airfields - fighter sweep on Soerabaja airfield - and one small strike on three loading ships in Port of Soerabaja. All afternoon raids were canceled - these were two large raids on airfield and port. The Carrier Force will move up the Java Sea and Strike at Batavia and Tjilatjap tomorrow. This Carrier operation 24 is to gain Naval and air superiority in Java and Borneo area after complication caused by Allied Prince of Whales Squadron - and hopefully will give me the initiative back in this area. But the main Carrier Force is on tight time frame - and cannot miss anymore strike days - as it has to be in Ambon area for operation in five day.

Japanese Army units took Temuloh in Malaya today against no enemy operation - and it is looking of the British have retreated in Singapore area already - is pity as I would have liked to damage their infantry before they get to fortress. Army size attack by me on strategic Chinese force west of Taiyuan - but enemy force put up strong resistance - will need some artillery and air bombardment before next assault.

Glad to see your AAR Tone!

With my promotion at work, I've been able to keep the game rolling with Michael but cannot keep up with the AAR. Hate that because I love writing AARs a BUNCH! We're now in mid-Feb 42.

What do you think so far of RA? Not too many changes at the start except for the forward deployment of the Fleet. What did you do with the CVLs and CVEs?

On the 'things to look forward to' list just wait until the 9th Air Fleet arrives in Kyushu! All those Fighters, Bombers, and Recon will really help once they get trained up a bit. The HQs and Base Forces will be of immense help as well.

Hello John - I am very much liking Reluctant Admiral scenario so far - even against of the huge Chinese hordes - everywhere I come against Chinese they are there or four times my size and around the midland Yangtze cities they seem ten times - this make it very interesting as if I make mistake I am down the river you would say - but I think they will run out of steam soon.

I have grouped Ryujo Shoho Zuiho together with the four Nachi class cruiser in 2 Carrier Striking Force - they are now in South China Sea to Support the Singkawang operation - Hosho is with Celebes Cruiser Covering Force as assault Carrier covering landings with her Type 0 fighter and Type 97 attack aircraft - Taiyo is in South East Fleet Area also as assault Carrier covering landings - but she only carry Type 0 fighters - reason I need assault Carrier is because at Seaplane Carriers are now assigned to Carrier Striking Forces.

Yes it will be good to get extra Tactical Naval Groups as the four I have now are spread thin - also I never have enough airfield support to leap frog airpower.

Report for January 9 - 1942

Major of event today when 1 Carrier Striking Force find major Allied Air Force Concentration of Batavia - but weather bad again so only morning search and recon launch - also morning fighter sweep on Batavia go in - it meet over 40 Allied fighter downing of maybe 20 for loss of 2 - then Allies launch many raid on Carrier Force with maybe 50 Bomber escorted by 25 Fighter - but they get no hit and maybe lose 10 fighter plus 10 bomber - but then all afternoon strike packages are stopped by weather again - will try one more day then move south.

Also manage to torpedo a Tanker south west of Hawaii - will move that patrol line for Allies will send ASW force as that is 4 ships in that area in one week.

Now have Rabaul up to major support base - have full tactical naval air group install - with now full air search - here shot of air search have cover all approach now with high and low search asset.

Report for January 10 - 1942

Major event for day started in the early morning hours - with American Submarine waiting in ambush at mouth of Yangtze River - it attacked small River convoy but was driven off - In the Java Sea two Allied Submarines attempt to penetrate screen of first Carrier Striking Force - they of also driven off with maybe one damaged.

Weather was bad again for Operation 24 in Java Sea - with only morning offensive sweeps of Batavia again - but no programed air field or port strikes launched again - this was the last day of strikes so First Carrier Striking Force now retires down the Java Sea to Ambon Area for operations there. It is of consolation that the air operations in the Java Sea in last three days have destroyed over eighty Allied aircraft mainly fighter - One must wonder with such a large commitment of Allied airpower in this area what extra ground forces have been moved there of to.

To the north in the South China Sea the Singkawang operation is getting underway with landings starting early tomorrow - But one surprising development was raids on the Second Carrier Striking Force by American Demon Flying Fortresses flying from Singapore - luckily the Enemy Fortresses obtained no hits - it is now time to put Singapore airfields out of action for good.

Other news is that Our ground forces in Luzon that were pushing up from Naga have arrived at Manila - there appear to be enemy troops still in the city - so the troops will maybe attack in two day time after rest - Special Naval Landing troops also land at Ternate in the Celebes today - they will move off the beaches and attack the Dutch Garrison tomorrow.

After much thought on subject I have come to know in my heart that this scenario is to flawed to continue of - The huge Chinese Forces encountered in all parts of China make the situation here intolerable - also along with of data base and OOB mistakes that I thought were fixed before we started this game - have compelled of me to ask JonReb for restart in stock scenario one of this game - or if he was not of interested in restart that I credit victory to him - I am sorry that I had this to do but with these game problem I was not enjoying play - Thank you, Tone.
