Today was a bad game turn....Lost the Barnes CVE w/air group to a sub attack south of Johnson Island.  Plus other problems.  CK is holding out ok.

Woodlark Island is turning into a nasty little fight.  I have lost 3 CLs and about 4 DDs in the past three days around Woodlark.  The KB has arrived and is posted 120 miles to the NE of Rossell.  I have about 20 transports at Rossell unloading and more at PM.  Both are now in range of KB CV air w/ a one turn move.....
I did sink about 4xDDs in a surface fight at Woodlark on 7-22, but not worth the trade for my 2xCLs.
What is really weird is my resupply barges to woodlark always show up after the IJN has shelled then left in the same turn. Hehe.

On the Brighter side, I love that austrailian armor..I read a post from Nemo that suggest he likes to clear small atolls w cmb engineers and an armored unit...the armor cuts down on the size of the stack.   I have noted those AR units land quickly off LSTs.  The LST if sunk is worth 3 VPs where an APA is worth 25 VPs.  So why risk expensive ships and infantry when u can do it on the cheap against a close in jap defense in the solomans.  

I also dropped a para fragment into the action. the 4 sqds were 37% prepped for milne bay. I recognize this as gamey and remind myself:
1. no rules
2. I am getting beat horrible on VPs.
3. I am down 5 fleet carriers.
Also w/ 30xB24 ground strike. I figure about half his defense is now disabled...I hope the KB hangs around after woodlark falls!

I am really disappointed in this result....I figured the 2xCLs would stand up to any IJN cruiser TF. I was wrong and should not have committed....I wonder if I am doing something wrong in my surface tactical setup. I did forget to put out my PT boat screens because I was tired from work...
I was looking for a fight w/ this TF. All the DDs had 12xtorps each.

43-7-24: KB has moved south...off Rossell.  half way expected some kind of problem.  I loaded up Rossell and went for it.  I hope the loss of my attack planes was worth this hit.  Finally saw the Beaufort contribute to the campaign.

Finally swept the skies of enemy air over Magwe and plastered the AF w/night and daylight raids.  One sqn CAP was swept by Brit hurricanes and marine F6Fs which did not coordinate...I would bet 100 planes are damaged on the ground..

3 torps into the Ryujo, did not think my sinking report was accurate until now...set my subs to area patrol south of Truk and had a good night attack, no moon.

ChungKing has fallen.  It was expected.  Current VP count is roughly 58000/22000 counting CK.  FatR needs 66000 for a 44 auto victory.
 Could be less if he takes two of my big bases.

Hey Sir. Not to hijack your AAR but since you are a ways into the Mod, could note in the RA Thread any art issues on the Allied side? Additionally if you have any insights as to improvement I would really appreciate it.

Hi John. I am happy w/ the art. I am not much of a naval ship design expert but I do greatly enjoy the new and different ships and art. Concerning the RA70 Mod this is my second RA70 game. My only suggestion concerning the mod is not to tinker w/ the allied planes, specifically the hurricane. I noted there was talk of toning down the hurricane on the RA thread which I am against. Suspect the allies need all the help they can get. Also w/ FatR playing Japan in this senario he is THE MAN. FatR designed this senario so he knows the ins and outs. If you take him on be prepared to recieve a combination of good training and an ass whipping.

Concerning this game I am sure the reason for the point differential is mostly do to with:
1. some mistakes I have made operationally:
a. Loss of BBs at Pearl in sept42 in effort to resupply (caused by my lack of experience concerning early IJNAAF naval torpedo power) and
b. Continued drain of surface assets at Andamans in effort to resupply ground units on the islands. ( am not sure but if i replayed the senario I might evac or abandon the units).

2. Playing a "no rules" game when I excepted the game.
a. The biggest problem I created for my self was to allow the manchuko garrison to help destroy china. Originally I thought this would not be a problem and i could control the situation. I underestimated the power of the additional units from manchuria. I wanted to give FatR a counter balance to the at start problem w/ the chinese at full strenght. I should have played the original game house rules...shame on me.

Bottom line, the only problem in my game is my learning curve.
RA70 is a kick ass senario. Japan has a weakness caused by the Senario which the allies have to figure out how to exploit.

I really expected to get trashed when i saw 2 jap divsion come after my brigade.  I was surprised by the combat result. I'm tripled in the mountain rough. Wonder of FatR has a supply problem in Burma. Combat report said nothing about supply. maybe we both had a supply problem....

IJN is unloading reinforcements at Lae and Madang which I have not tried to interdict...

Buna has recieved an eng and a base force and soon will become operational.  This has shown me that it is feasable to walk all the way to Lae if needed.  Currently i have a 100 ship amphib TF at port morsby ready to make another move into the Coral sea area. 

Sadly fatR has again responded w/ a massive buildup of air power which is displayed on this screen print.  All these jap fighters seemed to have moved overnight into new forward positions.

I find the easiest way is to kill jap fighters is to utilize b24 night bombing over his air fields.  I have showed this ability of the b24 defensive fire to FatR in a private email.

Phase one of operation Relief is progressing as planned.  We have about 240 ftrs in Fleet w/ about 150 on cap.  Lost about 3 ships so far.  Air war seems to have gone my way as FatR forgot to turn all his torpedo bombers to the use of torps....and he did take about 90 planes losses.  I sent a carrier night strike of about 30 planes to Kona, minimal damage but probably helped raise the fatigue level on his betties.

Currentrly I dont feel see any reaction from the KB on the Palymira/Johnson line.  Recon of Truk, mili, and Kwag shows no sign of CV presence so I figure FatR KB has gone to sea.  Sub picket line reports judy sighting at 144/116. I have moved too close to the Marshals. What is max judy range from Maoplap? I am 8 hexes out.

So if the KB is at sea in this area I figure I have 4 days to develop the situation in Hawaii before I have real problems.

This screen print of the Judy from my other game shows the max range of 7.   So judy ASW is carrier bound at 144/116.  At a closing speed of 10 hexes per turn I have 4 days to get ashore before I am caught in a nutcracker w/ the KB to my west and the Hawaiian LBA to my east and north.

I stand corrected.  Jap Ki49s did fly but w/out escort.  I would bet the Ftrs could not muster the .5 to one ratio needed to fly. In addition the nells sat on Hilo and got shelled by one of my SCTF.
