Just what are we supposed to do with the Long Island???? She's slow, small, and can't carry enough birds. I've tried loading her with TBD's and Dauntlesses, and nothing much happens. I even tried using the landed Air Group of the Wasp when she bit the dust from four Type 95's (ouch!) Thought tin cans were supposed to be better than that! All the transplanted Wasp planes did was disappear at the first opportunity - like the next turn. Which brings me to another question - where did they go? They were loaded on a CVE at sea, and the next turn they are not on the board. Did someone sneak some liquid schwartz into their fuel system and they fly all the way back to Pearl?

Use her as bait, or as a diversion, or simply as a transport for aircraft between Australia and N.

I've used her to transport P-400's between New Caledonia & Australia. I've also used her a couple of times to try to generate a false "carrier TF sighting" to distract the Japanese player (don't know how successful that has been, though). Other than that, she usually stays anchored either in Noumea or Rockhampton.

It's real easy for the first task. She serves very well as a magnet for nasty people flying in airplanes trying to do bad things to my ships. The trouble is that there are usually other ships with her that I would rather not have nasty things done to. RUNAWAY! RUNAWAY!

I have never been too much in favor of transport except between Brisbane and Noumea - anywhere else and you loose the ship and her cargo. Every thing else is within transfer range and you get the planes there faster, quicker (even allowing for a day or so to get rested up from the long flight) and usually without a lot of ships being tied up. All in all, a carrier without an air group is a bloody waste of good steel, fuel, and crew - unless she can resupply CV's in an unrep group, and that hasn't happened yet. The only thing that has done is provide air cover for whatever I can put her in if I park a USMC group on her deck, give up the use of eight extra F4F's, and run them all over the Coral Sea.

Rowlf, does this come from the Notebooks of Lazarus Long?

Jupo -> (7/30/2002 7:53:07 PM)

I did put 24 F4F in it and used it for protecting my AP&AK against japanes air attacks. I'm not sure that can it repair damaged F4F planes when there is 24 instead 16 planes.

Long Island won't launch any planes. Send her back to Pearl. Of course they'll send her right back :rolleyes: Nobody wants her.

As for your missing Airgroup, you'll find them back on the Wasp. In my experience CV planes will go back to their original carrier if it is at all possible.

Rowlf, does this come from the Notebooks of Lazarus Long? [/B][/QUOTE]Nope. From the Liaden series by Lee & Miller.
