Vincenzo_Beretta -> Breaking: First Transatlantic Meeting of Those who Count in the Harpoon community! (6/15/2010 7:35:15 AM)

For immediate distribution.

Vincenzo Beretta and Herman Hum are pleased to reveal that the "First Transatlantic Meeting of Those Who Count in the Harpoon Community" was held in Edmonton, Alberta (Canada) from Jun, 9th to Jun 11th 2010.

During the meeting Mr. Beretta was able to count up to nine, his performance being impaired by an injured finger. Mr. Hum actually managed to count to eleven, with the help of his nose, thus surpassing earlier bookmakers' predictions.

A gift exchange took place. Mr. Beretta brought to Mr. Hum a copy of the 4.1 pen and paper Harpoon Rules, complete with the "High Tide" supplement "So that you can finally understand what the damn game is really about". Mr. Hum gave in exchange free meals and booze.

"It has been exciting to be able to badmouth Harpoon's patches history face-to-face while eating good Canadian dishes" the two said in a joint declaration in front of a crowd of clapping seals. "Regarding the future of the community, we now plan to count even more, with the help of God and our feet".

Rigorous training plans to that end have been announced.

Next meeting will tentively take place once ANW is fully patched, which means sometimes before the end of this century.

"Maybe our sons and daughters will be able to enjoy the same kind of fun and hospitality I enjoyed these days", Mr. Beretta later said in a private conversation with the press corps.

"It has been a rollercoaster ride!", added Mr. Hum after climbing down the West Edmonton Mall's rollercoaster.

No pictures were taken during the event, in observance of the "Don't Scare the Children" youth improvement act.

I believe that I now own the most expensive copy of Harpoon 4.1 rules in the world.

While the production and acquisition costs were modest, the Trans-Atlantic delivery fees were murderous.  [8D]

Will there be a 4.1 pen and paper Harpoon Rules "Bug List"?   [;)]

I hope you did have fun.

Cheers

Nebogipfel

Reminds me of the shipping and handling fees for the dual-signed Red Storm Rising. Silly oceans getting in the way of the USPS!

Does remind me that Mr. Vincenzo Beretta still owns me something as well:

Mr. Vincenzo Beretta and I made a bet some 2 years ago; for 2 bottles of nice Italian Grappa Liquor or 2 bottles of excellent Dutch Old Genever.......
The Netherlands played against Italy during European Football Championship.
NL won the game with 3-1 [I guess, after all, it's a long time ago [:@]]. And I won the bet.............

So, Vincenzo, instead of talking about your nice trip to Edmonton, when are you going to send me the Grappa?[:D][:D][:D]

Looser![:D.

Shipment by DHL or UPS?

Edmonton........really? Is the mall really that big, and really that underground?

hermanhum -> Harpoon (6/17/2010 9:27:24 AM)

It isn't really underground, but it needs to be that big because it houses more submarines than exist in the Canadian Navy.  [:)]

Nebogipfel -> RE: Harpoon (6/21/2010 10:06:13 AM)

I googled for the the pen and paper rules, but canīt find wether pics or something else. (Did you mean the board game ?).

hermanhum -> Harpoon (6/21/2010 10:57:17 AM)

Yes, Harpoon 4.1 is often referred to as the ruleset for play with miniatures and thus requires pen and paper.  I don't think it is so much a 'board' game as it is a tabletop game (any flat surface to mark the map is sufficient.)

If you are interested in acquiring your own copy, check under Clash of Arms.

This boxed edition of the game must be one of the most well traveled in history.  It has now been down to S. America in addition to N. America and Europe.  If games had frequent flyer points, this one would have elite status.

The ripples from this kind donation has yet to reach the edges of the pond.  [8D]
