Chryse -> How to move Catalina's from west coast to Pearl? (6/15/2010 1:25:05 PM)

Sorry if this is a dumb question but I am new to the game and stumped currently.

Trying to move full unit of Catalina's from SF to Pearl. I have no option to transfer them to a docked ship. Can't fly (transfer) there. Units are assigned to USNForwardAirCenPac. How do I accomplish the move?

Chryse- Hi-there are no dumb questions(except the ones I ask).

To move your Cats, first get them from West Coast US to Kodiak in Alaska. At Kodiak, I think you can get them to Midway. If not from Kodiak, move to Dutch Harbor, then Midway.

Hope this helps. Hugh Browne

You donīt "transfer" them to the AKīs in the squadron overview.

You select "load troops" in the TF screen and then select the cat squadron you want to load.

Thank you much for the quick replies. Was able to load them as LoBaron suggested.

While I am at it, is there a reason why the loading of Catalina's is different than other aircraft types? Other types seem to have the "transfer to docked ships" option.

Carrier aircraft can be transferred to aircraft carriers.  They aren't really "cargo" at that point.

If you're in a pinch you can fly them up to Dutch Harbor using various bases , then to Midway, then Pearl. Some of those flights are long so it would cost you so ops losses more than likely.(DH to Midway is 41 hexes)

Frisco to Hilo is 55 hexes-

PBY-4 has a max range of 75 hexes so it can make the trip.
PBY-5 has a max range of 54 hexes
PBY-5A has a max range of 46 hexes

To follow up on SuluSea's post: Eureka is 54 hexes from Hilo, so your PBY-5s can make that jump.

Later on, you can upgrade to Coronados (which can make it from San Fran), then upgrade back when they land in Pearl. That's another way to do it.

These were PBY 5's so that is good to know as well.

Enjoying the game so far although it is a bit overwhelming and I have much to learn. A few interface quirks I wish didn't exist such as having the task force list scroll back up to the top each time you check a fleet. Makes keeping track of fleets a bit of a chore.

If you play with user defined upgrades, PBY-4's can do this asap once you get a few PBY-4's into your pool for upgrade rotation.
