Icesavage -> Resource warning when upgrading? (6/18/2010 10:04:40 PM)

Is there a decent system for telling me if I actually have the resources on hand to build a ship. I started one game, and found an artifact planet that improved my beam tech from level 1 (I forget the name) to concussion beam. This was early. I think I was still colonizing planets in my starting system, and I think I had only build one wave of ships beyond what I started with.

So I upgraded my ship plans, and went to modernize my fledgling starter fleet. Well, the Conc beam used resources I didnt have. And because I had sent a 6 ships to be refit, my medium star port was now at a standstill. I had sent most of my bigger destroyers in first, and now i had only a hand full of minor ships covering against pirates and no way to clear the clog without taking a huge hit.

Thus, I m here wondering where I can easily check if i can actually build something in a reasonable amount of time when I design a ship.

Or is this a "feature" request?

Just wrote a short guide on how to check what resources you need for constructing new ships, bases etc. Open up the Ships and Bases screen for the specific ship undergoing refit. Select the Components tab at the bottom. This will display the all the components but you need to be focussing on the items under construction. Click an item and it will show the required resources to build this component (in the latest beta version 1.0.5.6). Then you can check on the resources at your planet and then also the resources you have available in your trade network to see what issues you may encounter.

But I agree with you 100% that there should be some sort of easier feedback on what is going on.

Thanks for that guide.

I`m also struggling to learn the interface controls and the game system and running into diminishing enthuse for the Game. More of an issue of my ability then the game design I`m sure, however.....

I never thought a WitP micro-management fanatic would say this [;)] but there must be an easier way to implement upgrades and see errors like that, before lots of game time is wasted and restarts needed
