TSCofield -> question (6/22/2010 7:06:07 PM)

A friend of mine is making a mod for a flight simulator and one of the things he is doing is of course Midway. He is trying to get all the names for Torpedo 8 and asked me this question. To be honest I don't know the answer. I thought maybe someone here might know.

quote:

Tom,

In searching for the tail numbers of the TBD's at Midway, I came across an interesting list. It is a list of the names of the members of Torpedo 8 that died at Midway. We know Ens. Gay survived and there are 14 other pilot names on the list. But there are also only 15 enlisted names. Did they go into battle without the Torpedo Officer?

John

PS. Still cannot find all the BuNo.'s

IIRC Waldron decide to use 2 men crews for the TBDs to increase performanc and he was expecting heavy casualties.
