macnab -> PBEM Bug? (8/1/2002 3:30:23 PM)

We are having trouble with pbem ,staring off ,we put the jap password in take move`s send allied put`s password in send`s back ,load turn no auto replay? for some reason wont work until the auto save is run ,it doesnt matter what is on the auto run but do it once and it goe`s ok and generate`s the first replay for the jap to see ,? that work`s each way whoever is jap and also with a different person ? so it`s not just one comp ,all have the 1.20 patch`s and all the rest, and it isnt a three way game just two seperate two way`s only thing in set up jap sub doc is off, all other setting`s are default ,is this a bug?:(

1st Japanese turn: Japanese player enters password, gives orders, ends turn, saves game (to whatever number that was decided upon for the PBEM game). Then Japanese player zips the save-game file ("sav???.dat") and sends the zip file to the Allied player.

1st Allied turn: Allied player unzips file received from the Japanese player and loads the saved game. Allied player enters password, gives orders, ends turn, saves game. Then Allied player zips the save-game file ("sav???.dat") and sends the zip file to the Japanese player.

Subsequent Japanese turn: Japanese player enters password, gives orders, ends turn, saves game. Then Japanese player zips both the save-game file and the Combat Replay ("sav001.dat") file and sends the zip file (containing 2 files) to the Allied player.

Subsequent Allied turn: Allied player unzips file received from the Japanese player and loads the "Combat Replay" file, watches the replay, then loads the save-game file. Allied player enters password, gives orders, ends turn, saves game. Then Allied player zips the save-game file and sends the zip file to the Japanese player.

If you are doing all this, and are still having problems, then I can't help you. :D

thank`s we are doing all that , onthe jap second go i can only make it work on auto replay ,if you just go to 004 which is where it is saved it ask`s for allied strat password ,if you do on atuo save you get the allied replay and can then do your jap turn ,this is so confusing and as i say it doe`snt matter who is jap it is still the same for which ever player take`s the jap side ,thank`s any more please from maker`s ?

Are you sure your Allied opponent is actually ending his orders phase and not just saving the file when he's done and then quitting?

macnab -> (8/1/2002 9:50:30 PM)

Yes we are doing this ,i know co`s we are switching around , and also you get the replay through the 000 auto save ,and do the japturn through it to, and it make`s a replay file to send to allie with data one ? it doesnt generate a replay for the jap after the first turn in the save slot we are using 2and 4 for seperate game`s if some one want`s to start a game as jap with me to see this prob i`ll oblige we need only do a cple turn`s to see it going any taker`s ?

Erik Rutins -> Thoughts... (8/1/2002 10:00:57 PM)

I'm not sure I've completely understood the problem, but I have a few ideas that I'd like you to try or to rule out:

- It looked like you said the 000 autosave was the replay. In fact, the 001 save is the replay. Have you been sending 000 or 001? You'll note that 001 is titled "Combat Replay".

- We had a working 4 player game going before Mogami moved. On the first turn, the sequence was as follows... for these purposes I'll assume that the Allies are using Save004 and the Japanese Save003:

1. Japanese Player 1 does orders, saves as Save003, sends to Japanese Player 2.

2. JP2 does orders, saves as Save003, sends to Allied Player 1.

3. AP1 loads Save003, does orders, saves as Save004, sends to AP2.

4. AP2 loads Save004, does orders, saves to Save004 and sends to JP1.

5. JP1 loads Save004, watches replay, does orders and saves to Save003. Sends Save001 (Replay) to all players and sends Save003 to JP2. Go back to 2 and continue...

Regards,

- Erik

Erik thank`s the sequence is bieng folowed but it is a two player game and two different people, when the turn come`s bck from allied first one ,it doe`snt generate a replay for the jap to watch, i do know oo1 is not there yet co`s the second jap turn make`s it ,so the jap activate`s the allie`s password turn but no good until you play auto save then it`s good and work`s ,would you like me to send a turn so you can see or the other way round ? peter
