BillSeurer -> WWII Long Cmapaign Q's (12/1/2000 11:14:00 PM)

I played a few more battles in the long WWII campaign I just started and it raised a few questions. How is the location of the next battle chosen? My first fight in 1940 was against the Dutch. I am fairly certain I chose Western Europe for that. Then I chose North Africa and I ended up battling the French near Paris! Then I chose North Africa again and actually ended up in Africa against the British. Why the anomaly? Do you ever end up fighting in Norway? In another thread I asked about points the AI uses in campaigns and now I think something is seriously wrong here. In the last fight I ended up killing 96 British tanks and there were still over a dozen active ones on the map. Plus he had 40+ infantry. What the heck? In the previous one against the French they too had nearly a hundred tanks that I could see. This is rediculous! I basically have one armored company and a mechanized infantry company with a few attached STuGs and AT guns. In these huge fights my units almost always run out of ammo and most of my armored units end up disabled or destroyed.

Well Bill, the only things you can do here are; A) lower the points in the preferences for the AI, or B) edit the campaign, as per my document available at Fabio, or Tankheads sites, and the Journal. I quit letting the AI pick the battles, or it's forces for exactly this reason!! Evidently though, I am the extreme minority here, as I've heard very little feed-back on this?! Oh well, I enjoy it, and would never go back to AI pick and selection. ------------------ Mike Amos Meine Ehre Heisst Treue

I don't know how the battles are choosen but I have played many WWII Campains and have never seen a Norway battle and only a few Dutch. The forces the computer choosed is based of the total cost of your forces. The more expensive your forces the more points the computer gets. I believe that it is something like three to one. I usually play with one leg Inf. Co. a section of tanks, a section of AT. Against the Russian this means that I see two to three Inf Co plus a tank section or two plus artillery and AA, if the computer chooses only two inf co's then there is usually one light tank co. THis is with the purchase cost and units in the preferences set to all xxxx. You can adjust the amount of points the the computer or you get in the preferences and you can adjust the number of units avaiable to you or the computer. Hope this helps.

Having seen almost 120 British tanks that'd be, what, 4 tank companies? There had to have been at least 2 or 3 infantry companies too plus he had some artillery. I suppose that could squeak in under 3x my cost. So, I can put a limit by changing the XXX to something like 2x my total points. Is that an upper limit (i.e., AI's points some random value <= 2x mine) or a fixed value (AI's points == 2x mine)? Off hand I don't remember a way to see the current point value of my current guys. Where can I see that?

BillSeurer -> (12/2/2000 3:40:00 AM)

Say, what choices of West/East/Africa/??? (are there others?) should I choose to maximize the length of a long WWII campaign for the Germans?

Might ease the pain if you consider that the 3x point value compensates for AI limitations; at least that's how I look at it. My campaigns (as German) have been in: Poland, Belgium, Holland, France, N Africa, Russia, Italy, France, Belgium and Germany. Haven't seen Norway, Greece, or Yugoslavia in SPWAW or SP1/3. I'm thinking with enough support, the bro's at Matrix might include these-and others.

The points that you set in preferences are absolute, not a ratio. The options of "True Troop Cost" and "AI Advantage" can further affect the number of points that the AI actually receives. I don't play random generated campaigns anymore, for exactly the reaons you cited.
