Kingfish -> Where is Ndeni? (8/4/2002 2:46:59 AM)

Just curious, is the Allied beach labeled "Nevea" in the Santa Cruz islands also known as Ndeni?

If not, where is it?

Ghormley wanted to invade and set up a base there. Halsey nixed the idea. I still am not certain if the Japanese ever got NDENI under their possession.

Seaplane Tenders U.S.S. McFarland and U.S.S. Mackinac set up temporary seaplane bases at Ndeni at various times during August, 1942. A U.S. Army survey team was landed to assess the possibility of building an airfield there but was withdrawn after heavy casualties due to malaria. Neither side ever successfully occupied the Santa Cruz Islands.
