This isn't technically a bug, but something I've noticed during gameplay.

In CCLSA, the number of points a particular battle group receives is typically fairly small from one turn to the next. Obviously this is deliberate, as it means the player needs to make hard choices about what they will do.

Playing as the German I've also found that many of my squads are of a very poor quality - obviously deliberate as well so that it reflects the fact that the Germans scraped together whatever they could and threw it in the path of the Allied advance. And as you would expect, as your battle group goes through battles, your squads gain experience, making them slightly better than what you may have started with. Once again, normal.

However, there doesn't seem to be any sort of an option to refit an existing squad allowing you to leverage some additional experience it might have gained, the way a "refit" used to be an option in CC Cross of Iron. Given that the game encourages the player not to waste their squads because there won't be many points in the next battle, it seems strange that there is no way to allow, for a slightly lower point cost, an existing squad to have some replacements drafted in - allowing you to have some experienced soldiers and some newbies, giving the squad a slightly better rating than it might otherwise have had.

I guess this is more an enhancement than a bug, but it's definitely something I think would encourage the player to treat their squads in a more realistic way, as against having to drop a squad which is down a couple of men and then "purchase" a new one.

Sort of a trade-off.  Refitting is not actually historical for an operation of this scale.  In COI, refit is not just replacing losses but also upgrading equipment. How will an ersatz troop ever become upgraded to an elite FJ unit? It's not just a matter of passing on superior equipment. How will you be able to upgrade tanks within a span of just days? I believe a unit should not be involved in an operation to get tank upgrades since they need to familiarize themselves with the new equipment first.

I believe the lost troops automatically get replacements in between battles (so the refit option that you are looking for is already built in). You just can't upgrade them to a better unit like in COI. But the replacement rate is not so obvious (slow). If only the game retains the troop status if you return them to the pool... then things will be better (you can rotate squads while they wait for replacements).

A side-track: I played CC3 (Der Ost Front mod) with the intention of being realistic and only replace tanks between operations, It went down in flames since there never were enough points at the start of a new operations to refit the tanks with new murder-machines. [8|]

Anyway! -Don't the squads in LSA receive new troops when you put their BGs on 'rest'? Can't say I know they do, but I think they do... [sm=innocent0009.gif]

Cheers

You're right. This is obviously way to short for that sort of thing. I was thinking more along the lines of merging two two-man squads into a single squad (trading one back for enough points to add a couple more soldiers to an existing squad) so you don't have one in which morale is likely to break immediately.

That's a good point. As most of the battles I've fought have involved the static forces, and there is no resupply there so I've fought many a battle with an under strength squad. In those, I'd like some way of merging two squads into one.

When I actually have a regular battle group, it may well be that I'm automatically getting replacements. I'll have to pay closer attention to that.

How do you put a BG to rest in LSA?

SteveMcClaire -> RE: Refitting Squads (7/15/2010 5:51:24 AM)

Right click the BG, select the "Rest" order.  See the game manual for full details on the BG orders menu.
