fthein -> Singapore problem (7/22/2010 9:29:09 AM)

Hi

i have a big problem in my current game as Japan against the ai. When i try to move my troops to Singapore i lost 15000 men because of the river shock attack. I donīt know what to do to bring my army over there without loosing 1/4 of my troops?
Maybe someone have a tip what i can do?

Frank

Are you moving in move mode or combat?

Prep all ground units for target Singapore well in advance - you don't need to prep for the bases on the way down to Singapore, so you can switch to Singapore right after your troops are ashore in the North.

Bomb the enemy's ground troops at Singapore with as many bombers as possible for several turns.

Assemble the largets possible force at Johore (at least three Inf Divs plus all the tanks, arty, combat engineers you can get your hands on) - you don't need to garrison Malaya to guard the rear this early in the game (except the locations with garrison requirements).

Don't forget HQs and base forces (support squads!).

Dump lots of supply at Johore.

Let your troops rest for a few days so disruption and fatigue go down a bit.

Let the attacking units "follow" the Inf unit with the highest remaining fatigue level (in attack mode of course).

Use only combat troops in the first wave, i.e. foot sloggers, tanks, arty and as many combat eng units as you can muster, PLUS at least one Corps HQ - but no base forces, construction Engs, AA etc. (those follow after the base has been captured).

HQ's all have a minimum of 1 range don't they? Wouldn't you be able to leave the corps HQ in johore and still have it grant it's combat bonus to the troops in singapore?

Range 1 means "the hex the HQ is in and all 6 adjacent hexes".
Could not find appropiate confirmation in the manual though ...
