With the planet being that close to it's star it should be a massive molten ball of goo twisting and turning and being gradually pulled in to the star.

I dunno, after the weather we've been getting here in Scotland, I could do with catching some rays.[:D]

shinobu -> RE: I would not want to live here :( (7/26/2010 7:20:43 AM)

I went to Alpha Chandrasekhar 1 with my first wife on our honeymoon. I should have known then that it wasn't going to work out... [:D]

I like how the dark side seems to glow even more than the one facing the sun, heh.

Fishman -> RE: I would not want to live here :( (7/26/2010 11:47:37 AM)

Heh, I don't think any of these things are drawn to scale.

That's because the side facing the sun DOES glow, but you can't see it because the glow is pushed out of the visible spectrum. It's probably glowing quite brightly in UV.

WoodMan -> RE: I would not want to live here :( (7/26/2010 12:51:32 PM)

lol, I think the guy driving that ship took a wrong turn after leaving Alpha Chandrasekhar 1, should have gone to Specsavers...

Well, for a start the sun is about 1 400 000 km diameter when the size of the earth, is about 12 000 km, 100 times less...
The earth orbit diameter is about 150 000 000 km (1 au, stands for astronomical unit), yet 100 times the sun's diameter, 10 thousand times earth diameter. Even jupiter, the biggest solar system planet that is "only" 10 times the size of the earth would be annoying to display instead of the sun. And don't forget I speak about 1 dimension measures ; If I was speaking about volume, it would be this power 3.
If the scales were right, seeing the edge of the sun on the screen, even if the earth were at the other edge of the display area, it would be a fifth of a pixel large on a 1920 wide screen... And the sun 20 pixels wide ! Not very fun to play. And this is yet only the earth, or also named Sol 3. You could call it very near from the sun...
Look at these orbits:
[image]http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/1/12/Oort_cloud_Sedna_orbit.jpg/600px-Oort_cloud_Sedna_orbit.jpg[/image]
And when you quit the solar system, it's yet another scale... Alpha Centauri the nearest star from the sun is at about 270 000 au, or 270 000 times the sun to earth distance...
My thanks to Wikipedia ! [:)]

What? No Warm Fuzzy Feelings on the sun scorched rock? [:D]

bigbaba -> RE: I would not want to live here :( (7/26/2010 3:27:01 PM)

at least you dont need any heating there.[:)]

the1sean -> RE: I would not want to live here :( (7/26/2010 10:43:57 PM)

great solar power opportunities as well!

DiggyDad -> RE: I would not want to live here :( (7/26/2010 11:04:40 PM)

You definitely wouldn't need to buy a snow blower.

Xkill -> RE: I would not want to live here :( (7/28/2010 3:01:12 AM)

I would not want to live there too. Ice would be the desire of the people that may live there!

Florestan -> RE: I would not want to live here :( (7/28/2010 1:32:32 PM)

Ice ? You would have to mine it somewhere else ! And use it fast, real fast !

rk0123msp@mindspring -> RE: I would not want to live here :( (7/28/2010 3:45:48 PM)

Yowza! [:D]

Don't have to worry about building a gas mining station, the gas mining station comes to you!

In soviet russia, YOU come to the gas mining station!
hmm........ no that joke doesnt quite work here [:(]

I found a really wierd solar system the other day though, the second planet from the sun (not that close), had a moon with a huge orbit, resulting in the moon occationally DIPPING INTO the sun. Ouch [:-]
