madgamer2 -> Win 7 Pro AND matrix games (7/30/2010 8:41:41 PM)

ok I read some older posts about this but none mentioned win 7Pro version by name. I seam to get three different response's to "How and where do I put games and Matrix games in particular" 1. Install the game and let win 7 decide where to put the game 2. Put them in the x86 program file irregardless of what win 7 Pro says where to put them 3. Create a a folder(S) like C:\matrix games\Game name Now I am not a wiz kid when dealing with computers but there would appear to be potential problems with all three of the above. Putting a 32 bit game into a 64 bit program file as in #3 could cause problems just because the game is not a 64 bit program. letting win 7 Pro decide and all 32 bit games will end up in the x86 folder as in #1 above and might even function. I had one non matrix game that would not work in the x86 folder and I put it in a folder like #3 above and it works fine. I am a bit hesitant to put games that are 32 bit all in the x86 and if they do not run then reinstall them in there own folder. Oblivion for some reason did not recognize the video (among other things) and we ended up reinstalling win 7 Pro. and getting Oblivion from Steam and a tech modified it so I could add the Mod's I am using and all was well. I have a good second system with XP Pro, 2 7950 video cards and a nice LCD monitor. One thought is to install all games that do not say they are compatible with win 7 Pro on this system and run the two systems with a KVM setup. I am trying to figure out the best way to go when installing games and Matrix games in particular. 1. do I put the game where Win 7 says and if it does not work uninstall it and put it in the other folder 2. Do I create a folder as in #3 above and use it for all games? 3. Install in the x86 folder first. it would seem to me that there are potential problems in all of the above. my current system uses an Asus M3N72-D Mobo, the old style Phenom 2 Quad core (the fastest one), 29800 GTX+ video cards in SLI, a LG 23" 1980x1050 LCD in HDMI,4GB of RAM, 4 SATA 2 HDD's in a RAID 0 array and is fluid cooled. I do not mean to sound paranoid and perhaps the reinstall caused by Oblivion was because we installed Mod's from the XP Pro OS. Some help from here would be great. From what I hear even the older Matrix games will run in win 7 if put in the right place but how do I know where that is. So how do most of you install in win 7 Pro? thanks for reading this rather long rambling post from a non computer Matrix game lover. Madgamer
