The announcement of the upcoming Ultimate Harpoon is very interesting. However, I didn't notice any mention of how it will improve on the current HCE. I am curious. :)

TonyE -> RE: Ultimate Harpoon Improvements =??? (8/6/2010 7:58:27 PM)

For the long version you can read the release notes at http://harpgamer.com/harpforum/index.php?showtopic=2395 . Ultimate Edition is 2009.050 (it has a few tidbits from later builds), the previous release was 2008.044 so you'll be looking at the release notes from 2008.044 to 2009.050.

Akmatov -> RE: Ultimate Harpoon Improvements =??? (8/6/2010 9:44:54 PM)

Let's see if I understand this.

So in the HCE Release Notes thread the notes from 2008.044 to 2009.050 will cover the changes to be introduced in Ultimate.

And if I sigh up as a Beta Tester, the current version is HC2010.006GE, right?

Beta Tester might be interesting, I would have an outlet for any gripes and play with the latest version. :)

Correct on the release notes (though 2010.001 will indicate your stop point since 2009.050 is a special build for the ultimate edition).

You don't really have to sign up as a beta tester. Since you already have an account at HarpGamer, that is all you need.

You always have an outlet for gripes, whether beta testing or not; especially if you spend time with us on IRC at harpgamer.

Yes, whatever you may think about the game, you get a really outstanding level of support from the coders and DB maintainers. [8D]

I completely agree, based both on my recent messages and my memories of my last dive in the Harpoon waters. :)

They going to fix Tomahawks and make them work right?

I've levelled a lot of structures with TLAM and sunk a few ships with TASM in my time; not sure what you are referring to.

CV32 -> RE: Ultimate Harpoon Improvements =??? (9/28/2010 1:22:14 AM)

Tomahawks are nothing like they used to be, and they used to be relatively easy to spot on radar and shoot down. They haven't been that way for quite some time now.

So.. I'm still not sure. Is this an update for those of us who have it already or some kind of re-release? [X(]

A re-release. Remember I'm just the messenger pretty please.

jomni -> RE: Ultimate Harpoon Improvements =??? (10/26/2010 2:13:55 AM)

You have to buy Ultimate.  This is bascially a combo pack of both Harpoon CE and Harpoon ANW.
But they will stop supporting Harpoon CE (stand-alone) and all future patches will be made for Ultimate.
It sucks but I guess this will push me to finally jump into ANW.

My conspiracy theory is that they want to get rid of HCE players and want everyone to move over to ANW.

I want to provide a bit of clarification here...

HC (aka Harpoon CE) is programmed, maintained, and supported by those of us over at harpgamer.com. It is a volunteer effort. We will continue to support all versions of the game. I keep seven installs at the ready for just that purpose. True, we won't be allowed to release patches for pre-Ultimate versions of the game but I view support as something that doesn't have to include patches.

HC as part of Ultimate will continue to be updated. I just posted an early beta version of the game at harpgamer that has literally thousands of code changes from Ultimate. The game isn't going away, you don't have to touch the H3 side of Ultimate (though as long as you'll be buying it, I think you should try it out).

As for your conspiracy theory, that's been true for a long time [:'(] but we keep hanging on and making AGSI money.

NefariousKoel -> RE: Ultimate Harpoon Improvements =??? (10/27/2010 4:55:55 AM)

I'm very sad. [:(]

Issue clarified. But your statements doesn't debunk anything I've said. It actually reinforces it...
To get a more spruced up HC, you need to buy Ultimate because no further development will be done with HCE ( Though according to TonyE we'll still get scenarios and probobly DB fixes / enchancements.)
I know I'll buy it sometime in the future but some people are not comfortable with this.

Have a look at http://harpgamer.com/harpforum/index.php?showtopic=2449 . Find yourself a virtual machine that will run a 32-bit version of Windows and go to town. For Windows 7 it isn't a huge undertaking though if you don't have Windows 7 Pro or better you'll have to spend the money to do that in-place upgrade first (if you take the MS only approach). Lots of ways to skin this cat and given that Windows XP Mode isn't unrealistic to configure it is highly unlikely you'll see a 32-bit scenario editor anytime soon (i.e. I expect if everyone who wanted to run the SE who can't bought the Win7 pro in-place upgrade the expense would be far less than creating a 32-bit SE).
