I know this is a touchy subject but has anyone figured out how do do any editting to the game?

Yes, but I would have to kill you if I told you how. [;)]

Seriously, the basic data is in the various .dat files and figuring out how to hexedit them is not difficult. However, there are serious limitations because what appear to be available "slots" are not later in the game. Data is also not interpreted in consistent patterns, so for example a byte which is the "effectiveness" of a weapon can mean something entirely different when referring to another "device" in the same database. Locations also morph during the course of the game. For example, Axis Radar sites can convert into ground units.

Even more important, much data and the changes to existing data are maintained in the executable which is off-limits unless you are really good with assembly code. [:D]

In essence, the game was not coded to be end-user edited. I know this from experince. [:@]
