RedArgo -> Internet speed problem (8/17/2010 12:43:22 AM)

I've noticed the speed of my internet connection gradually slows down over a period of days from 20+ mbps to 1 mbps. If I reboot the router it goes back up and the cycle starts over again. I'm assuming my router is the problem, but before I buy a new one, I thought I'd ask if anyone can think of anything else it might be.

BTW, my ISP is Comcast if that might make a difference.

Thanks,
Bill

Well, had a similar issue w/ my cable modem (no router).

Generally at or above 20mbps but every afternoon the signal kept dropping continuously.

I live in the Arizona desert so though the heat of the day was affecting the connection (the cable box is on the west side of the house).

Long story short, had a cable tech come out and check. He said all hardware (connectors, etc.) in the box were old. Replaced all hardware in the box and then replaced the same in the house.

Have not had a dropped connection since. So may also want to check the actual ISP connection.

I'm in the AZ desert too. I have cable TV/Net/Phone and had nothing but problems until a senior tech came out and replaced all the cable from the pole to everything else. Not a problem since unless the company has a problem, repair, server issues or whatever.

There's a good chance that your router's hardware is overheating.
You should probably get a new one...

Thanks for the replies, I went ahead and replaced the router and so far the new one has held the speed for about 36 hours, so I think that was the problem.
