... if they hadn't just released Elemental which I suspect will occupy me for the next few weeks.

Or not. Something else that needed a few more months in the cooker.

Back to DW [:D]

thanks for the warning!

Looks like alot of people appreciate D\W according to all the posts!I enjoy the game very much w\ai handeling most of the boring aspects.Anybody remember SSI Star General?I know lousy ai but I liked the ground combat it had.Anyway back to D\W.Have a good one![:'(]

Yeah i also got Elemental, lovely game but still very buggy / crashy. So i basically fired up DW again and it felt good to be back, will start playing Elemental for "real" once more crashes have been fixed :)
Thank you DW for being there during the hard times <3
lolz

It seems to be par for the course these days, sadly.. there really isn't much point in buying anything until a couple of months in (not that I have the self discipline to take that advice). In fairness we should recall DW was obviously in need of considerable work when released, too.

BTW, 8 years and 2771 posts on these boards with not so much as a slapped wrist. As to SR, I've just been banned from theirs (admittedly only for a day) for posting this;

quote:

I might have rather more sympathy for this sort of complaint HAD THE GAME BEEN SUPPLIED WITH ANY SORT OF MANUAL, the absence of same is inexcusable whatever the circumstances of the release. As is... pffffftt... sorry..

As I said in another thread, if you think James Allen is unduly harsh, unfair or "obviously exists merely to excite through harshness" (which is total BS BTW), you are in for a few shocks from elsewhere. Guys, I'm all behind supporting this game, but to do so effectively you'll need to discard the fanboy delusions, taking umbrage at criticism and face up to what SR currently is. SR was released effectively as an alpha build and that, however unavoidable it may have been, will have equally unavoidable consequences when it comes to reviews.

Helps you appreciate these forums a whole lot more! [:D]

Star Ruler is quite interesting though. The scales are mind boggling compared to DW. Currently I am playing in a galaxy with 1500 systems. I experimented a for a couple of hours with the mechanics, teched up, colonized six systems. Then I built a long range colony ship and sent it half a galaxy away. There I manually built up a heavy industry planet. I built a carrier and a thousand miniscule fighters, docked them. Then I built about 500 colony ships just like the first one in three waves, over the course of maybe 20-30 minutes. I selected them all and pressed "X", which is the command to move to the next unexplored starsystem. The ships spread out over the galaxy map in an impressive 3 dimensional torus, and dutifully colonized planets in 500 systems. Insane. 30 minutes or so later, my research output has risen from 200k to 10m.

Of course the interface is atrocious, no real way to keep all this massive fleets and empire under control, haven't met any other civs yet, but anyway.

I never played Star General, unfortunately.

Simulation01 -> RE: I appreciate DW much more now. (8/27/2010 4:27:56 PM)

I played Star General.  It was.....cool at the time.  Good memories there.  I initially had a nightmare of a time getting it to run on my old HP, but it was cool when if finally played....I may still have that game.  Wow, I just went through my old games.... I still have copies of Star Control 1, 2 & 3, Master of Orion 1 & 2, Civilization 2 and it's scanario pack, SSI Star General, Imperium Galactica II, Call to Power 1 & 2!!!  Ahhh, memories [:)]

Thanks! I never played Alpha Centauri. It didn't really look that good to me.
