What are the percent chances of haveing aire opperations canceled for each of the various weather conditions? I understand that the chances are being lowered in the next patch but I was wondering what the current chances are. Yamamoto

Well, I hope they really do something about the weather. I'm playing a PBEM game of Coral Sea and after 10 turns, I've had 8 turns of PM missions cancelled due to weather. Didn't get one launch against the Jap CV TF. Only one against Lae and one against Rabul with B-17s. Very, very frustrating. Miles

I may be the only guy who is ok with the weather model... Yeah, it's frustrating as can be to see a enemy TF and not be able to launch and airstrike, but remember that sword can cut both ways. When the weather is bad, I rest the air crews -- so in that respect it helps me. If anything, I would like to see something that would allow you to move a TF in behind a weather front, or duck under a storm system. May a weather overlay on the map toggled via a function key... Knowing that would be a lot of additional work, it would be nice to be able to see the impact of the weather at each base -- ie Rain in a given turn may sock in PM but you could still fly from Luganville, etc. Just my humble opinion...

I lived the first ten years of my life on the equator (five on them in K.L.) so I know what the weather was like. It was bi-seasonal, dry and wet seasons. During the wet season (Summer, Autumn - can't remember what months) it would rain unlike any rain anywhere else on earth about 1 day in 3 (the other two would be boiling hot, as all days were, and the rain was warm, but when it fell, fell in big fat drops that landed VERY hard, not this wimpy stuff we have in Australia), whereas the weather was dryand totally calm (wind-less - perfect for air ops) for the other six months of the year straight. Bear in mind, this is all about 12 or 13 years ago for me now . . . might be wrong.

I have posted on this subject before, for those of you who do not understand how the weather could be so bad in the SP go to the following web site EACH day and have a look...... http://invited.to/weather/ Weather in this part of the world is mixed and changes from hour to hour. You can have clear blue skies in the morning to huge thunderstorms in the afternoon and this can be just in a local area. The scope of the SP is massive, dig out an Atlas and have a look. As for PM, that place is even worse! Consider this flying from PM to say Buna you have to cross the Owen Stanley Ranges, which are some 8000 feet tall, and are nearly ALWAYS covered in cloud. So even though PM might be clear, dose not mean that you have a clear shot at your target. The Allies lost a HUGE number of A/C in this area do to weather and pilots flying into a cloud only to find a mountain in the middle of it !

As fustrating as it is to have weather prevent your missions, we already have more intel than they did during the war. The chance that any given mission will happen is about 50/50 for that area. Read operations after action reports from the local squadrons. Weather at the field, at the target, and rolling between the two prevented missions. I love the fact that I end up screaming at the TF commanders for not doing what I want and the GD MF weather when it allways benfits the AI. That is command and not total grognard. You know you can allways turn the weather off and play flattop. It is not the sinking of ships that wins, but the control of land that wins a war. "all battles are won by grunts with rifles", wish I could remmeber who said that. So do not worry about the missed chances, just pound forward to victory.

Let's see it on the map! How ever hookie it may appear. It still would help explain some of these type problems.

I really don't care what the chance of mission cancelation is, but I would still like to know the numbers. That will help me know whether I should gamble certain missions or not. Yamamoto

[/B][/QUOTE] At one time I posted on the forum about my anger at having a clear day and having air missions cancelled at PM GilliGilli Lunga. My complaint wasn't because PM was rained out X days in a row - all that seems realistic. My complaint was that there were so many washouts when the weather was predicted to be clear. While I still do not think this kind of thing should happen I have come to like the way the weather is. It is kind of exciting (and of course frustrating) when things don't go as planned because of something as uncontrolable as the weather. So I too like it the way it is (mostly).:)
