olperfessor -> Cheat for Japanese poduction (8/24/2010 12:41:44 AM)

I would like to play the Japanese against the AI, but I get a migraine and arthritis flareup every time I read forum discussions about engines and aircraft factories.

My dread is committing some rookie production blunders so stupid that by late 1942 I am totally ... well, let's say totally doomed. Japan already is doomed, yes.

I am not above tinkering with the editor so as to make aircraft production fool proof (me being the fool), but I do not know how. Be honest now, has anyone here done that? If you have no ethical qualms about my tinkering with the editor for this purpose, do you have any advice? What production/pool numbers can I tweak? I am not trying to create a Doomsday pool.

I will stand in the corner wearing my dunce cap while I await answers.

You could make the engine and aircraft factories bigger from the start as well as put more oil in Japan at the start.  That will give you more room to make mistakes.

Edit: I assume you're playing vs the AI. Against a human opponent, I would say it's unethical without prior agreement, but the AI doesn't care.

OLP.

This is a recent post. look at 8/22 aircraft and engine production of a current Empire player in PBEM. Its a start. to help you along on your first ride of the Kraken.

The Japanese production is not as hard as it sounds, especially against the AI. Just make incremental changes and monitor stockpiles. One of the easiest approaches is to turn all the aircraft and engine factories off on turn one and then gradually turn on the ones you want to produce. It won't take too long before you see what you have excesses of and what you need more of. Use the factory menu and just make gradual changes as you need them. Going off the deep end and suddenly shifting and expanding everything is the only way you can get into real trouble.

Some of the threads on here make production seem harder than it is because it is usually two experienced players going at it in PBEM and the Japanese player is trying to operate Japanese production at its very edge.

Just be reasonable and prudent and you will have no problems.

By the way, WITP tracker is an excellent utility for tracking Japanese production and stockpiles.

Misconduct -> RE: Cheat for Japanese poduction (8/26/2010 12:38:20 PM)

I think I am going to make a "cheated" game against the AI for a few months and try to actually play the Japanese for once to learn the industrial system.
I read enough about it, I simply don't understand it for some reason, perhaps this is my chance to screw up for few months before I get the hang of it.

Thank you all for the advice. Having read what you have said, I think I will not edit after all, and take the advice about turning factories off in the beginning, and then gradually make some decisions (could I possibly do worse than Douglas Haig?). I suppose there is nothing quite so educational as making mistakes, and all of my lessons will be about the game as it is, not as I tweaked it. That is better preparation for going mano a mano with a PBEM opponent, regardless of who plays which side. I appreciate your help.

Misconduct,

Japan definately the greater challenge. What you suggest is way worth doing. You will have a whole new perspective on allies - and Japan - afterward.

Yeah I got the allies side down pretty good, just never really took a long look at the Japanese side, I am going to have to research the first turn quite a bit (figure out what to do) then go industrial wise, so far I have troop movement done after spending 4 hours on it, now time to look at the industrial and research again what to do.
