ORIGINAL: A7V_U Hi everybody, a thread in the general forum about linked games brought back some long lost memories. Does anyone else here remember when in the nineties Gary´s Pacwar and carrier strike were the latest games of the pacific theater? I remember that one guy in those days had a fascinating idea and started a project. The idea was, if a carrier battle was imminent in Pacwar, you would save the game and start an external program. This would load the save from Pacwar and save it as a carrier strike save. (Both games had very similar save formats) Then you would start carrier strike and play the carrier battle on a tactical level, after the battle you would save and reimport the result into pacwar[X(]. Unfortunately the project never was finished. It was released as some kind of a beta and I was able to export battles from Pacwar and play them, but the reimport into pacwar never worked. The author was one of the pacwar modders in those days and its a pity that there is nothing left of these old sites like the famous pacwar list or the old thegamers.net, where some guys started to mod sp2ww2, pacwar or WIR. They now are known as Matrix[;)] Well, for me its a fascinating idea to play AE and when a carrier/surface battle is imminent you change to a tactical programm and play it out. Ok, I admit that a game would take a few years more [:D] but who cares... I´ll have to live with the fact that some dreams never will come true[:(] Best wishes Rainer I seem to remember that Gary would update PacWar from time to time and you could download it from bulletin boards. So, what's the phone number to get that mod? [:D] I think there were some people doing similar with Harpoon and TOAW when the web came along but I'm old enough to be confused.
