You split a division into A,B and C and one of its components gets destroyed?

You're SOL. You can't recombine.

Czert -> RE: What happens if.... (8/28/2010 11:03:03 AM)

thats bad :(.

michaelm75au -> RE: What happens if.... (8/28/2010 11:15:32 AM)

That may not be the case anymore.

Due to the restructuring of how fragment and their parent swap places in 1106x, destroyed units are no longer kept track of by the inactive master unit.

This SHOULD mean that as long as all existing subunits are in the hex, they should be able to be recombine.
Use the Unit OOB button to see what fragment/subunits are around if the recombine button does not show.

Hurray!![&o][&o][&o] I hate it when I have sub units that are destroyed.

KenchiSulla -> RE: What happens if.... (8/28/2010 1:55:24 PM)

Michaelm, the reason I asked this is because the following happened in my game:

Split up 34 division into A, B, C

B got destroyed by the chinese somewhere in january 1942 - now I thought this kind of destruction was permanent...

august 1942 section B spawns in in Tokyo.... I never saw that happen before

Extraction from joperationsreport_420812

Delayed planes for the aircraft pool:
8 (24) x A5M4 Claude, 3 (2) x MC-21 Sally
248th Sentai arrives at Nagoya
34th/B Division arrives at Tokyo

WHOA, Timeout! That is a major change if that's true (and I'm sure it is, michaelm would certainly know)

I would never post A/B/C units to Islands for fear of them being perm destroyed. NOW, why not? You can re-constitute and re-grow the unit (if you have devices in the pool).

Or does the lost unit remain dead and the still active units simply have the ability to combine and essentially form a unit that will never be above 2/3 original strength. Even that is an improvement over not being able to recombine. [:)]
However if one could regrow the lost 1/3, that would be something that could be exploited. It would be in the best interest to divide ALL divisions and station them apart from each other. Free reinforcements as units are destroyed- subject to device availability of course..

This was what happened to me - I got the 34th/B division as reinforcement (empty shell to be rebuild) in Tokyo.... What I understand from Michaelm is that you can recombine if a part of a division (A, B or C) gets destroyed. Either way it is a good thing. You should be able to rebuild units like that from scratch. After all, you pay arm points, manpower and supply to rebuild them... and it takes a while!

Sredni -> RE: What happens if.... (8/28/2010 5:17:59 PM)

I kinda wish we could pay PP to rebuild destroyed ground units like we can with air.

DeriKuk -> RE: What happens if.... (8/28/2010 7:54:52 PM)

I recombined two companies (of three) into 'Kanga Force' (Australian). The other company had been destroyed in an earlier battle.

michaelm75au -> RE: What happens if.... (8/29/2010 6:50:36 AM)

The problem I had to overcome was that swapping of fragments and the parent didn't always happen.
Once I thought I had that under control, I found other cases where a unit was killed but didn't go through the fragment/parent swapping at all.
Then there was the issue with the sub-units not being killed properly.
This was aggravated by fragment/parent being on ships or being tasked to be picked up by TF/groups, having their numbers swapped.

To finalize the patch (1106g), I was rebuilding the destroyed subunits at 1% strength due in 30 days so that any fragments looking to the subunit would not be orphaned.
In future, I will be discarding this approach and doing what I mentioned above (dropping the subunit from its parent list). Any orphaned land fragments will be given the option to be disbanded.
Sorry for the confusion, the different versions are beginning to become fuzzy now.

The future patch may see a land unit rebuilding option similar to that for destroyed groups.

topeverest -> RE: What happens if.... (8/29/2010 6:32:53 PM)

Purchased land rebuilds would be a fantastic addition to this fine game - IMHO.
