Vincenzo_Beretta -> A New Harpoon 3/ANW FAQ (8/30/2010 8:42:14 PM)

Directly from the Château d'If, the Legion of the Banned (*) proudly presents a new FAQ page for Harpoon 3/ANW.

http://www.harplonkhq.com/Harpoon/FrequentlyAskedQuestions.htm

The Harpoon 3/ANW FAQ is an FAQ about... well Harpoon 3 and ANW. It covers bugs, clarifications, suggestion for scenario-writing and I lot of other stuff I didn't check. And... that's about it, really. Check it and let us know what do you think!

Cheers,

Vince

(*) More like one guy, actually...

I don't know if the devgru is aware of this but I actually think this is a simple copy and paste from the Harpoon Wiki:

Compare:  http://www.harplonkhq.com/Harpoon/FrequentlyAskedQuestions.htm#9075

to

http://wiki.computerharpoon.com/index.php?title=H3ANW:MissionProfiles

My apologies if this has been re-posted with the permission of the developers.

Guess he selectively read the site, and sort of ignored the banner across the top of the page.

"All content is (C) 2007 AGSI. May not be reproduced or quoted without written permission of AGSI."

Of course, he has a copyright notice at the bottom of his page - containing our material.

Go figure

Some day they all understand it, some day...

It is not that difficult to understand. The copyright notice at the end of the FAQ is a standard disclaimer for any unofficial FAQ:

This guide may not be reproduced under any circumstances except for personal, private use. It may not be placed on any web site or otherwise distributed publicly without advance written permission. Use of this guide on any other web site or as a part of any public display is strictly prohibited and a violation of copyright.

All trademarks and copyrights contained in this document are owned by their respective trademark and copyright holders.

Copyright 2010 Herman Hum

...It recognizes both the copyright owner of the game the FAQ is about (Harpoon ANW owned by AGSI, in this case) and the writer of the FAQ (Herman Hum in this case).

It is so common and standard that, I admittedly [:)] used the same Copyright disclaimer at the end of Assassin's Creed 2's Unofficial FAQ as the main reference:

http://www.gamefaqs.com/pc/956857-assassins-creed-ii/faqs/58382

Check any other FAQ on Gamefaqs (a perfectly reputable site) for other examples.

Of course the reason why sites like Gamefaqs exist is that usually companies ranging from EA and Ubisoft to the smallest of indie developers are quite happy everytime someone contributes to their games with content and help using his own time and money. I would be surprised if that isn't the same case here. If not... well, Harpoon sees a lot of unusual things going on - usually against it. And this is, at least to me, hard to understand.

Vincenzo_Beretta -> RE: A New Harpoon 3/ANW FAQ (9/29/2010 8:38:23 PM)

And, oh! I almost forgot the best part: the two contents are not even "copied" (any more than the laws of physics can be 'copied'). I even bothered to run them through a word comparing software.

Of course the objective parts of the FAQ (the ones related to how Harpoon ANW works) are just that: you cannot explain how to write a scenario for Harpoon ANW using TOAW III's mechanics [8|]. But the way they are explained is all new (as anyone can see by just looking).

This is just hilarious considering the history...

Little Beavers -> RE: A New Harpoon 3/ANW FAQ (9/30/2010 1:03:48 AM)

I suppose it would be if everyone knew what that ever so constructive post was all about.....

Ignore it and it will go away.....

Of people who, instead of trying to do something useful, accuse other people of plagiarism and regulary end up with two fists full of nothing on both fronts? Well, I don't agree it is hilarious: more like a little sad [8|]

Vincenzo_Beretta -> RE: A New Harpoon 3/ANW FAQ (9/30/2010 6:37:29 AM)

Hi Ralf, welcome back! I see that your "6th definitive departure" from the community was shorter than the usual [:)]

I agree that all those ongoing battles between you PDB guys and us others are sad and don´t promote the game.

Except for the fact that "you vs. others" implies a division that, simply, is not there (unless you want something like that to happen, but I would wonder why), I see that we agree on the disruptive effect: let's stop it here, then.

No worries. This - btw the 2nd one - is for real. I answered several questions I got via PM and mail here just to get it in one step. I´ll finish the scens I started, send them to Darren/AGSI/Frans and then - for me - its over. I hope that Darren will return, maintain the HUD 3 and time will tell if there´s a future for ANW.

Agreed on the second one.

Regards,
Ralf

Ralf you don't have to explain yourself to anybody particularly that one over there. Stick around, do your thing and focus on stuff that moves you and the Harpoon hobby forward. Later!

Hi Mike,

thx for the encouraging words. Got many nice PMs and mails asking me for the same. Darren is recovering. 3.10 looks promising.

Currently writing Pason 9 for HUD 3.

Yes - having fun here, again and at last.

Great news Ralf
