This guy is a photog I've bought prints from before. He does good work. Check out his stuff:

The Big Ben photo is perfect. Just the right atmosphere.

Historiker, you should find out if you could teach a year at an American University as an adjunct or perhaps a German language class.[:)]

Rather teaching in European History, my German grammar is horrible. I make no mistakes, but not because of knowledge of the rules...

Hi all,

Oh my... [X(][X(][X(]

quote:

Huge Open Pit Mine
Mirny, East Siberia, Russia

525 m deep, 1200 meters in diameter. The air zone within this mine is closed for helicopters - a few accidents occurred when they were "sucked in" by downward air flow.

This giant truck, BELAZ (200-220 ton payload ) (see 1), looks like small spot on next picture (see 2).

Mirny's location - upper city on the map and at the right corner you can see the overview map of Russia (see 8).

Here with small red arrow (see 2) the track BELAZ 7350 is pointed and Mirny city on the horizon line above.

Track dimensions are:
Length 13,360 mm, Width 7,780 mm, Height 6,650 mm

And finally, look from a satellite (see 7).

USSAmerica -> RE: THE THREAD!!! (9/15/2010 2:02:09 PM)

I like those pics, Leo.  I love trains and took a road trip 9 years ago out to Wyoming to see all the trains and huge open pit coal mines in the Powder River Basin.  Fascinating to watch the "industrial ballet."  [:)]

Onime No Kyo -> RE: THE THREAD!!! (9/15/2010 3:21:30 PM)

Unfortunately Russians are some of the best I know of at turning an absolutely gorgeous spot of mother earth into a moonscape. [:(]
