Have any of you played MAP: War over Vietnam? Thoughts?

I was thinking about ordering this strategic simulation from NWS which is on sale for $29.99 right now:

I own it. It's OK but not great.

If you like Harpoon or Fleet Command, you might like this although it's very simplified in comparison.

Also might want to take a look at the very similar War Over the Mideast.

FWIW, we had a decent discussion about both in this thread:

You can basically let the planes fly the pre-charted mission plan and watch...

Air war in Harpoon Classic is more fun and flexible.

They missed half the game by not including a built-in & easy to use mission planner. (yes, you can use the scenario editor, but it's unwieldy at best, and gives away the NVAF locations.)

I got the game on sale so I'm not too too worried.  I like the historical perspective of it, but as E mentioned how could they leave out a mission planner?  That really decreases the replayability of it all.  I will enjoy watching the original historical mission unfold and make adjustments as needed, As you said half the fun is about coming up with your own plan to accomplish the mission from scratch to see if you could have done better [&:]

I guess you could redesign the same missions in the mission editor and plan it out for yourself through the editor, but that is not quick and easy. [:@]

Well, I know now what to expect and enjoy it for what it is.

I have War Over the Middle East. I like it - haven't played it in a while - but it was food. There were a few things I wasn't too keen on (something like when ur aircraft found a location (airfield, air defence system) it didn't remember where those things were after the aircraft left the area...)

It was a decent enough game - but some people might find it a bit more of set going and watch

Jeffrey H. -> RE: Modern Air Power: War over Vietnam (9/17/2010 7:28:28 PM)

What was that game that was modeled after the old boardgames Airstrike/Airsuperiority ? Was it Mission Commander ? or Flight Commander ? I downloaded it from a site but lost the DL in a harddrive crash.

no - it's the Royal Corps of Transport badge or , due to army cuts and revamps, it's called the Royal Logistic Corps

JudgeDredd -> RE: Modern Air Power: War over Vietnam (9/18/2010 11:44:31 PM)
