mac5732 -> Problem with PBEM, not loading save game (9/27/2010 4:11:54 AM)

Playing pbem game, lst campaign Dec 7th, everything in preference etc, normal except for a few that we either turned on or off. Jap player starts game, enters his password, sends to allied player. he loads, enters his turn and sends back to Jap player. Jap player plays 001, then loads the save and takes his turn. Saves game in slot 007 (we also tried different slots) sends to allied player. saves, then loads 001 and save game. 001 asks for password, given, playes out turn, game then goes to main screen afterwards, go to save games, clik on 007 slot, goes to 2nd player password, given, as soon as Allied player hits play. it goes to main menu screen. We have played witp and wpo and never had this problem, could you pls tell us what we are doing wrong or missing, if you could give us a step by step it would be great tks in advance. becoming quite frustrated here....

Sounds like the wrong password is being entered when the allied player loads the 007 file. Are you sure the Japanese player did an "End Turn" and saved from the "end turn", as opposed to a normal save file? A simple test is to have Japan try to load 007 using the player 1 password.

Also, there should never be a need for the Japanese to load the 001 file. Not sure why that is being done?

Basically
Japan runs the turn by loading the allied return turn (using player 1 password)
Do all the order entry. OK to make intermediate saves
Click "End Turn" or use hot key "E"
Save file to xxx
Return both 001 and xxx to the Allied. Optionally return the combat report as well. Do not return the operations report.
Allied loads 001 with player 2 password, watches replay and generates his(*) reports.
Allied loads xxx with player 2 password, enters orders. OK to make intermediate saves
Click end turn or use hot key "E"
Save file to yyy (can be same as xxx, doesn't have to be)
send yyy back to Japan.

(*) her reports, in the case of Grafin

same password is being used by the allied player each time we tried it consisting of 7 spaces... is that to short of a password maybe??. Jap player only sending 001 turn, not playing it, my mistake

The point is the allied password won't help if the "end turn" wasn't done. Just about every game I've been in has done this at least once.

Try loading the same file with the player 1 password.

edit: Oh wait, are you saying both players have deliberately chosen the same password? If so, then what I'm saying doesn't apply. Although 7 spaces is an odd password - perhaps that's related. You might want to post a save (but only after you try loading with the player 1 password, if it is different)

mac5732 -> RE: Problem with PBEM, not loading save game (9/27/2010 6:23:32 AM)

what I meant is that both of us are using seperate passwords, but have used the same ones on the 3 different trys....

mac5732 -> RE: Problem with PBEM, not loading save game (9/27/2010 6:25:20 AM)

in ref to end turn, do you mean exit the order's phase?

witpqs -> RE: Problem with PBEM, not loading save game (9/27/2010 6:36:15 AM)

Yes, that's what he means.

I suppose another possibility is that when entered the first time, there was an unknown type in the password. If that's the case, you could try to guess what might have been erroneously entered.

Lifer -> RE: Problem with PBEM, not loading save game (9/27/2010 12:48:08 PM)

The screen should be asking for Player 2 password.  If the Allied player is seeing the screen asking for Player 1 password, then the Japanese did not end the turn.

lst I want to tk everyone for their help. The problem has persisted, but found away around it. But I want to list exactly the stuff that happened and then what we finely did to get around it

1. we changed our passwords per the majority of your suggestions. DIDN"T WORK
2. we sent the turns like your supposed to do. Jap player to allied player
3. Some things that happened. Player 1 received player two's turn, however, the actual turn was Player l's not player 2s' It stated Player 1 not player 2
4 another thhing. Game slot 009 sent to Player l by P2. when he received it it was slot 007. Player 2 had an empty slot 007 and showed 009 was sent
5. Player 1 rec player 2's turn, Player 2s password didn't work, Player 1 entered his password and the game turn worked even tho it asked for Player 2 password.
6. Player l rec turn, again showed 2s Player turn password req. Player l entered his password again, locked up, rebooted game, went back to the save game, cliked this time came up the correct turn player 1
7. Player 1 saved game as usual, when he went to send it, it showed two game slots with same number except, 1 said it was a zip file
8. Player 2 rec Player 1s req for password on his turn. would not accept either password for either player....
9. Player ls turn would play ok, when he sent it to player 2, player to would type in password and it would immediatly go back to the main screen.
10. Player 2 uninstalled, reinstalled game and patch, same problems occured
11. Player 2(being completely PO'd by now) finally decided not to enter his password when he got the latest try back again. THE GAME TURN WORKED....
so far as long at Player 2 doesn't enter his password, the turn works.....go figure.

Never had this problem before, Played both WITP and WPO numerous times. Any ideas how to fix this problem, or is it a bad game CD with corrupted files???????
