Carewolf -> What defines a space port (9/27/2010 7:06:47 PM)

I've been wondering what is required for a base to act as space port. I've noticed that some discovered bases use space port designs and for the purpose of at least marking trade routes on the galaxy map gets treatet similar to space ports on a planet.

a) Does this trade route map on the galaxy map have any real consequences?
b) Will any star base with ship construction capability suffice for this purpose?
c) Is it possible to actually build star bases like that (using the star base role for instance), or is this just a "bug" or "quirk" of discovered bases?
d) If it is possible, does that mean you could design a base like that and build it using constructor ships over new colonies (new colonies otherwise being too slow to build a space port on their own).
e) Does an independent space port (without colony) help make trading smoother over long distances, does it choke it by having too little capacity, or does it have no effect at all?
f) Could you make important mining bases with this capability
