mbk2043 -> Withdrawing Air Units Early??? (10/2/2010 3:31:55 AM)

Another question from someone learning day by day. I could see that some air units in the Singapore area were soon to face withdrawl so I did so a few days early. I recieved an option to take some PP, which I did ... and was asked if I wanted to reform the unit, which I didn't do b/c it appeard the unit "wasn't" to return to the theatre.

My question, "did I shortchange myself somehow?" ... it apprears that b/c I took those points "or" b/c I picked not to reform that the 7 planes never made it into my replacement pool? the pilots I'm not sure about b/c I didn't take the time to note the names ... mostly I just wanted to save the planes ... I am 4 turns later so I figured they'd show up by now if there was a delay ... maybe they were absorbed as replacements?

Just wondering b/c it seems an aweful waste to have 100s of planes due to withdraw on the WC and many units needing replacement up front, and not being able to withdraw early

thanks ...

Some units withdraw and the planes don't go into the pool, others will withdraw planes and pilots.  It doesn't matter when you withdraw them, that's what happens.  When you do something that puts planes in the pool like withdraw a unit or upgrade a unit, the planes don't all go into the pool immediately.  If you look at the ops report for the turns after the upgrade or withdraw, you will see a line or two stating how many planes went back into the pool and how many are left to go back in.

Thank you, I see now that some units give you PP when you withdraw them and others do not

Also, if you say no the the question about PPs, it will then ask if you want to withdraw the unit and put the pilots and aircraft into the pools.

Yep, and this is a real newbie gotcha at first, then a windfall. Often you're so desperate for PPs early in your first game that you never click "no" and see the even better option of "free" aircraft to feed your anemic plane pools. To my style of playing, a free plane is worth a lot of free PPs. I always take the planes.
