Hello all, I'd first like to take the oppurtunity to introduce myself. I received my copy of UV a couple days ago after having bought it at the suggestion of a friend of mine. So far I'm loving it, and though I'm still a bit lost in the complexity in the game, I'm sure that same complexity will only make this game that much more filling than many other strategy games out there. So, what does that have to do with this thread's title, you're asking yourselves? While reading the manual earlier I noticed how it mentions that by setting the altitude very low for experienced level bombers it is possible to "skip bomb" enemy ships. For the sake of experimentation I figured I'd set everything I had in Port Moresby to do this, and sat back to watch the day's resolution. My modest little force of twenty-four B-25s, nineteen B-29s, and forty-two B-17s attacked the AI transport TF of about eight APs and two DDs. I was fairly cackling with glee as the first group approached an AP and struck it with three 500lb bombs right off the bat. I was a bit less enthusiastic when the second group chose the very same target, also hammering it with several hundred lbs of explosives. By the time I'd watched the eight group hit the same target completely ignoring the other ships in the TF. I skipped through the rest of the animations straight to the post-battle report, and saw that of the ten ships in the TF it was the only one to receive any damage, whatsoever. While I managed to hit this ship with an impressive forty-three bombs, the fact that no other ships at all were even targetted makes me wonder if I'm missing something here. Is this normal behavior for low-flying bombers? Or am I experiencing a bug? I ran the game for a couple more turns on the same settings and each time out of every TF engaged only a single ship would take damage, albeit catastrophic damage at that. Anybody else experienced this?
