Stella is the beverage we drink if the only alternative is water. [:D]

Does anyone out there actually enjoy the taste of alcohol? My impression has always been that if it weren't for the intoxicating effects humans would seldom drink it.

JudgeDredd -> RE: Just had to share this ad for liquid goodness. (10/26/2010 12:12:07 PM)

First and second are crap - after that, it's enjoyable. but I agree myself - it's the intoxicating effect that's nice - not the taste.

Although there are some nice tasting alcholoic beverages - although only Baileys springs to mind

Stella or as it is also called Wife Beater

Alcohol has no taste at all - in the case of beer it's the hops and barley and whatnot that gives a beer a particular taste and yes I do like the taste of some and when I was a kid it wasn't unusual for whole families, including children, to drink very low alcohol beer with meals. I know we did. Infinitely more healthy than the sugary soda drinks of today.

I have no idea why it's called that - after a few, I couldn't hit myself!

I don't like the taste....no many do I'm sure....thats why alco pops came out for the kids and women...since then binge drinking took off in a big way....alco pops came out at the time E's where a big thing and the drinks companies where finding there sales slump...so out comes alco pops for the kids and suddenly the rave scene is flooded with bad E's....

sol_invictus -> RE: Just had to share this ad for liquid goodness. (10/26/2010 2:04:28 PM)

Give me a good German lager any day; preferably Paulaner of Spaten. I do actually like the taste of good beer.

I agree here by the way - Alcopops where a very bad idea for the youth in the UK. It made alcohol taste "nice". If they'd have left it how it is (not nice) loads less people would've been drinking - nevermind at such a young age.

Jevhaddah -> RE: Just had to share this ad for liquid goodness. (10/26/2010 4:03:21 PM)

My drink of choice over the past 30 odd years (and some have been very odd [:D])is a Snakebite.

For me it's a 50/50 mix of Pils Lager and Scrumpyjack Cider in a pint glass chilled to the bone..

MMmmmmm Luverly

Edit: I meant to add that it looks like 3 day old piss but the taste is nectar[;)]

Cheers

Jev

I wouldn't enjoy the taste of alcohol itself, but alcoholic beverages are another matter. I love beer in particular, especially Belgian lagers and ales produced by a number of American regional brewers and mirco-breweries.

SlickWilhelm -> RE: Just had to share this ad for liquid goodness. (10/26/2010 7:26:42 PM)

My drink of choice is a good red wine. Merlot, Shiraz, Cabernet, old vine Zinfandel.

When drinking beer, any strong Belgian ale works for me. Current favorites are Koeningshoven quadrupel and Kwak.  [sm=party-smiley-012.gif]

06 Maestro -> RE: Just had to share this ad for liquid goodness. (10/26/2010 7:28:36 PM)

I love the flavor of beer. I am not sure about alcohol not having flavor, but there is most definitely a similar "flavor" from straight 151 rum and everclear-and it is not good.

I think that Stella commercial was great. I don't recall ever having a Stella, I will have to see if it is available in these parts. That commercial warrants at least a six pack.

Jeffrey H. -> RE: Just had to share this ad for liquid goodness. (10/26/2010 7:49:44 PM)

I drank so much Stella it literally started to affect me in sevreal bad ways. I'm not drinking it any longer. I'm into Chimay blue now. One bottle a night dosage rate, only on weekends. I love that stuff. I've finally evolved.

D.Ilse -> RE: Just had to share this ad for liquid goodness. (10/26/2010 8:01:35 PM)

yea I used to drink Clear and Cokes in Uni, 1oz of everclear to 12oz Coca Cola..and yea I blacked out a few time, actually greyed out, where the field of vision got smaller and smaller...stupid acts of youth I will admit.

I say anything 40% or more has a feel of burning by itself(used to bartend, and made up new cocktails, so I've tried the range of grains, and rums..just not tequila which has a sickly sweet taste.but makes me gag on contact unless it's blended well(hidden by stronger flavors)

The claim Vodka has no taste is false IMO, it does esp what it's distilled from adds to it..I like Potato vodka and Ciroc(Made from Grapes) over grain in it's cleaner and less of a harsh bite "taste"..but the reason for the tasteless claim I think is Vodka is easy to blend and hide, and doesn't overpower with scent or taste(like say a good Gin) to other ingredients.

case in point: classics..Gin and Tonic and Vodka Tonic..with a gin you will always taste two things, the Quinine in the tonic and the essences of the gin's botanicals, and if done right the hint of lime. With a Vodka tonic, you shouldn't taste alcohol, it's there but it's 3rd fiddle to the Tonic and Lime so it goes down smoother..esp to a novice drinker.

Woah, that came out like the Bill Nye of the Bar.

D.Ilse -> RE: Just had to share this ad for liquid goodness. (10/26/2010 8:04:49 PM)

should be..it's fairly common here in the states, least more common that alot of other better Belgium beers and ales.

Esp if you are never Vegas or Reno(Tourist Spots) in NV it should be easy to find.

I mean if I can find Köstritzer on tap local here in Florida and in the 5L fridge kegs. I am sure you can get Stella.
