To save your battle group from being massacred;
return all your units to the force pool and select 3 ad-hoc units.
Then during the battle,
hide 1 unit by the exit VL and do a banzai charge of the light brigade with the other 2 units.
The force morale will break and the battle will end.

More cost effective to 'kamikaze' with a BG consisting of a single Ersatz.

Is their a danger that if the unit (single Ersatz) is completley destroyed,
will the Battle Group be disbanded?

Yes, per 15.4 Morale Failure (p.49) there is a risk of being disbanded -

"If one side destroys all enemy units, they hold the field, and the enemy Battle Group is disbanded. This very rarely happens because the losing side generally flees from morale failure first."

A problem with retuning units from the active roster to the forcepool is that, after the battle, the game will automatically refill the active roster.
Often when I clear all but one team out of the active roster I would like those Battlegroup Points to be available in subsequent battles to purchase
reserve units when using that BG in Reserve.
