typhoon -> Manual Chapter (12/1/2010 6:13:04 PM)

Just downloaded some of the manual from the homepage. Much as it's appreciated I thought for one brief moment it was the game itself the Mrs was somewhat shocked at my girl like scream then sigh of dissappointment as it was then wasn't so to speak she's still not sure if I need medical treatment or not and keeps giving me her most serious of looks.

Flaviusx -> RE: Manual Chapter (12/1/2010 6:14:05 PM)

I suggest bribery and distraction for your significant others. You'll never convince them on this, so confuse them.

Ken7 -> RE: Manual Chapter (12/1/2010 6:29:16 PM)

I too had a loss of breath and a gulp for air thinking it was the game release I was looking at. grrrrrrr.. damn teasers. :)

DBeves -> RE: Manual Chapter (12/1/2010 6:46:11 PM)

Ah jeez ... you could have at least given us the full table of contents.... maybe I could just go to sleep for a couple of weeks and this would all be over ...

G.Boggon -> RE: Manual Chapter (12/1/2010 6:54:57 PM)

Is this dl only for testers or can anybody access/view it? Homepage?

wiking62 -> RE: Manual Chapter (12/1/2010 7:22:43 PM)

Hi kirkgregerson,

Go to the following link:

Adam Parker -> RE: Manual Chapter (12/1/2010 9:06:53 PM)

Thanks for the heads up guys but the link appears broken - "file not found".

I really appreciate the gesture in releasing a chapter but hey, it's not the 1980's and we're not looking inside a "General" magazine for a sample of the forthcoming Advanced Squad Leader manual, where in the days of snail mail lots of us at the time went "ooh, wow look at those new rules for machine guns"!

Is there any practical reason why a whole rulebook can't be released? As in GMT Games Living Rules or this brand new game just coming to market (pic below)?

It can't be piracy as they don't yet have the code and when they do get the disc - they'll then have the PDF manual too.

Lützow -> RE: Manual Chapter (12/1/2010 11:08:56 PM)

I'm grateful for the manual excerpt. That's some additional information while waiting for release.

you might want to give it another try. I downloaded it about 5 hours after your post, so fixed sometiems in between.

thanks
Rick

Adam Parker -> RE: Manual Chapter (12/2/2010 1:56:30 AM)

Thanks Rick - it may have been my downloading program as it still showed "no host".

Got it now the manual way [;)]

Adam Parker -> RE: Manual Chapter (12/2/2010 2:04:07 AM)

First thoughts, this manual may not be set up for easy reading on a Kindle etc.

Unlike the Battles for the Bulge Manual it opens 2 pages to a screen - BFtB opens with just 1 which is perfect for e-reading.

Maybe WitE will have an e-book version too?

Pipewrench -> RE: Manual Chapter (12/2/2010 2:09:19 AM)

thanks for the peek.

Captain B -> RE: Manual Chapter (12/2/2010 3:41:54 AM)

When I saw the manual excerpt, I let out an old fashioned rebel yell which scared the heck out of the dogs...and the wife. She didn't even get why I was so excited!

Now my strategy is to take my wife to Dinner every night between now and release to smooth over being locked in the computer room for the next month after that.

Cheaper to prepare her up front than pay the price afterwards[&o].

A BIG thanks to everyone involved.

AZKGungHo -> RE: Manual Chapter (12/2/2010 6:53:59 AM)

It opened in my Kindle with the print way to small to even begin to read. Works better on my Android phone, but I'm still hopping for something that will work better on the Kindle.

Adam Parker -> RE: Manual Chapter (12/2/2010 8:54:38 AM)

Caught a typo, need to remove the comma between "headquarters, units" p128 - see highlight below.

(I caught it letting the PC read the PDF to me [:D]. Hey I'm getting over a cold) [sm=dizzy.gif]

comte -> RE: Manual Chapter (12/2/2010 9:23:32 AM)

Thanks guys for the peek at the manual [8D]

BletchleyGeek -> RE: Manual Chapter (12/2/2010 11:34:58 AM)

Thanks for disclosing part of the manual, but looks to me that you still need to do some proof reading [;)]

quote:

calculated CV’s are fairly large numbers, so for ease of visualization the CV displayed on the unit counter on the map and in the unit bar are divided by 100 and rounded down, while the unit CV’s displayed in the combat resolution display have been reduced by a factor of 10 and rounded down. The CV displayed on a unit counter will not be less than one unless it is a HQ, depleted or routed unit (7.1.3), but realize that due to rounding, on-map units with a CV of one could have an actual CV that ranges between 1000 and 1999, a substantial spread (15.8).

if it's divided by 100 and rounded, looks to me the range is more like 100 and 199.

This game looks gorgeous: I hope we can get it for Christmas [&o]

EDIT: Or rather, between 0 and 199 since combat units which aren't depleted nor routed can't have a CV of zero.

GBS -> RE: Manual Chapter (12/2/2010 11:44:45 AM)

Don't you guys dare hold this game up because of some typos!

Adam Parker -> RE: Manual Chapter (12/2/2010 11:56:02 AM)

LOL. Not to mention that Bletchley actually caught a plurals mix too: "the CV... are". Oh well [:)]

Tzar007 -> RE: Manual Chapter (12/3/2010 5:22:26 PM)

It's not a big deal, but as Bletchley noted, I also believe some proofreading would be required.

Some sentences are written out in a weird way such as this one on page 129: The combat value displayed on the counters and as the initial CV in the combat resolution window can be radically different from the modified CV shown at the end of the battle, not only due to combat losses, but due to the many random factors and leader rating checks that occur to determine the modified combat value.

I had to read that twice before figuring it out. I believe some punctuation would help there.

But anyway, don't hold up the release for that, a corrected manual can easily be put inside a patch [:)]

Adam Parker -> RE: Manual Chapter (12/3/2010 10:44:28 PM)

They've got the weekend, I'm sure someone can go over it with a fine tooth comb before release.

Clarity will be important here as will the least amount of fluff possible.
